Island solace

Darn it ! I wanted to be the only person who had discovered this little gem ! I have lived only a couple of miles up the road from the glen for the last 20 years , and walked up it for the first time recently. It just goes to show , the island is a paradise for anyone wishing to get away from it all , especially in these challenging times.

If you are looking for a quiet place to meditate, in beautiful surroundings, this is the place for you. Among the trees, shrubs and wildflowers: this Glen is a special place.

OK for a quick stroll
Jun 2018 • Couples
Tucked away where no-one would notice unless they were looking for it. Parking is on the road opposite Bishopcourt and then walk back slightly to an unassuming gate on the same side.

The walk is through woodland punctuated with a couple of ponds occupied predominantly by ducks, and a stream running through. Originally the gardens of the Bishops of Sodor and Mann, it's now open to all, including dogs, so beware the fouling even though there are signs asking people to keep dogs under control.

It's pleasant enough and an easy stroll compared to some of the other Glens Doesn't take long and there's not much to see.

Beautiful walk with family. Large lake full of ducks and the kids loved feeding them then we had a great walk with the dogs. Very pretty.

Charming, easy woodland walk
Sep 2013 • Friends
A nice 30 minute stroll through mature woodland, past a couple of ponds and with the usual folly-type garden features. This glen used to be part of the gardens of the former bishops' palace on the other side of the main A3. Dogs are permitted (good on an island which is not especially dog-friendly) but owners (and parents with small kids) need to beware the main road right outside the gate.

One downside: only roadside parking. Felt a wee bit unsafe with the speed of the traffic (all Manx seem to be in training for the TT or the rally ;-)

Lovely glen

We only discovered this glen last year and it's one of our family's favourites. There is a huge duck pond and the ducks love their bread ! Very pretty walks on a fine day.

Calm tranquil place.
Very pleasant walk. Need to go again as it's about 3 years since we went and it could have changed a lot.

Peaceful Glen !!
May 2012 • Solo
Bishopscourt Glen on the Isle of Man is one of the best inland glens to experience. It is relatively level and has a very peaceful setting once you stroll through the gate off of the main road. The Glen is unique for within 300 yards is a small but peaceful lake usually full of ducks and geese waiting for walkers to bring them bread. Further along in the glen is a natural cave that has some historical significance to it. I'll not tell you the importance, it's up to you do discover that for yourself. ;-)

If you need some peace, quiet, a place to think, a place to pray, or just explore Bishopscourt is on my top five list of the seventeen glens on the Isle of Man!
