I booked a sports tour on Wednesday, the Tirajana Crater tour. Actually I was very disappointed that a “sports tour” consisted mostly of descents on paved roads or fire roads and uphills where even the fittest of our group had to push their bikes. I could have done the fire roads on my own, they are on any topo map. The reason to book a guided tour is for me that I want to get to places and ride tracks that I would not find on my own.

Good Points: Easy to find Good choice of bikes Negative Points: Very poor customer service We hired bikes for a week in April 2019. On the 4th day, my DI2 battery ran out leaving me on the other side of the island with one working gear - made for an interesting journey back! DI2 batteries last absolutely ages, so it was clear that this hadn't been charged in a long time. Not ideal, but these things happen. On the way back, we rang Freemotion and spoke to a lovely lady, who explained that the Mogan store wouldn't be able to swap the battery out, but rather than me losing a morning riding while the battery charged, she would arrange for a replacement bike, in my size, to be at the Mogan store first thing in the morning. "Wow" I thought, how helpful, what great service. Not so unfortunately ... I arrived at the store first thing next morning and was greeted with "what's wrong with it?" as i wheeled the bike through the door. He had no idea of my issue, hadn't been contacted by anyone and certainly didn't have a replacement bike for me. He then tried to tell me there was nothing wrong with it ... even though the gears were clearly not working. He then tried to tell me it was my fault .. that I'd probably leaned the gear lever on something and run the battery down (I have di2 at home ... so know i didn't do this). He then told me, he'd charge it up and i should come back at the end of the day to collect it (meaning a full day lost). I asked if it could be done any quicker, and was told "come back at lunch then". I told him i'd be back in an hour and would take my chances that the battery would last the day. I don't know what happened to the original phone call I had - whether she forgot to pass the message on, or whether she did and the guy in Mogan just didn't care. Either way - it was poor customer service and on top of that, the whole thing was delivered in a pretty rude and abrupt manner. Unfortunately, there are no other options for bike rental in Puerto de Mogan so he has a captive audience and can be as rude as he likes.

When I decided to terminate “My World Upon Wheels/reTIRED World (Bike)tour” early and return home (El PasoTX-USA) to my wife NLT 02APR2019, I had looked for creative routes from the subcontinent West, across the Atlantic. I was also quite interested in learning/experiencing more with e-Bikes because my 40+ years experience (commuting & touring)/addiction was threatened with “ageing out”—the inevitable loss of muscular strength, especially in my hams & quads/knees. When I found Free motion had e-bikes available (and likely one if the bigger rentals on this isle of what appears to be predominantly ‘older’/‘less abled’ people such as myself), my route needed to include time here. As I was overnighting at Pension Eva in Puerto de Mogan, it was great to go to the local Free Motion shop there (in the 5-star Hotel Cordial Mogan Playa), where I learned that the ONLY e-Bike available to me on such short notice (normally a minimum of 48-hours notice with 3-day rentals) was an hour East on superb bus #32 to Meloneras. The shop was directly opposite the stop, easy, as was the process (100€ down & 25€ rental) greatly facilitated by Ola. She/Free Zone/Rebel Cross e-Bike exceeded my expectations, even though shortened by a squall (no way was I going to risk shorting out my 8+ again in a downpour as I had whilst hiking to the “World’s End” on Sri Lanka with Grasshopper Adventures!). I believe this e-Bike is superior to the Trek e-Bike significantly. I cannot express enough my gratitude to Ola/Free Zone cycle rocks for helping me learn better. You certainly have my hearty “Wheel of Approval!”
