We bought trip to Gili Meno Escape, they nicely screw us up with transport back, so we had to pay extra money to get back to hotel and nobody cares. Beaches over there was dirty, full of rubbish, restaurants all around the place over there was just joke. Food quality awfull, service terrible, lets say we decide to stay just one night because we was starving. People around living in extremelly poor conditions, fighting for money on every single corner. Funniest thing was, how many times people offered us drugs to buy. While seating and trying to chill,no matter where we was, there was always street people selling crap and pushing it rude into your face, dont understand no as an answer. I didnt like this place at all, whole island is in very bad condition, very dirty and people over there are impossible. Awfull experience, i was happy when we left

Beautiful island if it weren't for
1) the rubbish that reigns just behind the beach (predominantly plastic) that is burned at night
2) the pollution of the sea not visible to the naked eye, the excess of boats and cruise boats means that not only gasoline but also feces residues are discharged directly into the water that apparently given the white of the sand appears clean
3) locals trying to rip off money with stratagems
4) the scarcity of the offer of comfort for tourists
5) the smell of sewer that occasionally comes out
6) port ticket office workers trying to bypass the official ticket office and make you make private company tickets with higher prices
7) a lake inside the island that is actually a puddle as well as being dangerous for the poorly maintained and teetering wooden walkway is a place where mosquitoes and insects proliferate be careful.
That's not how it's described. Just idealize places that in reality turn out to be different.

After Gilli T this was a welcome change. Lovely people much quieter island, lovely place to chill.
Plenty of places to eat and drink along with deserted beaches.
The amount of dead coral on the beaches along with rubbish and plastic etc on the beach and in the sea is heart breaking. Not just this island it’s across the board
We collected a lot of plastic up off the beach and from the sea when we went out on the boats
People who do the trips should educate people picking plastic up out of the sea, save the turtles and fish and to NOT touch or stand on the coral
There is that much dead coral they use it as chippings
Transport is pony n trap which I don’t agree with, bicycle or walk. We done the latter. It was great wandering around the island stopping for a drink on the way

I have mixed feelings about Gili Meno. The water is gorgeous and we saw so many turtles and lots of fish. To be honest the turtles were for me worth the trip but I don't think you need more than a couple of nights here . We literally could not fathom why nobody is doing anything about the never ending litter, it was so sad and I guess that there needs to be an initiative from the top like banning plastic on the island as well as employing local people to do daily beach clean ups. I was shocked at how dead the coral was , especially having been to Thailand recently where it was vibrant and full of colour. If people want to continue to make a living from tourism they've got to spearhead initiatives to clean these islands up. There is a weekly clean up on Sundays but this is no near enough.

Enchanting place ideal for those who want a holiday of total relaxation ...... but few services available, then places to meet for a dinner and an after dinner, or even for a simple aperitif, "streets" still of sand inn at some points it becomes a path on the beach.
I recommend it to couples on their honeymoon but no longer than a few days (2-3) to explore every corner!
A good alternative would be to do the day trip from Gili T with a private boat (recommended)

Did a snorkeling tour from Gili T. Beautiful corals and underwater life off the coast of Meno. Also spotted many turtles. The beach is snow white and it has some cozy but primitive restaurants. Wonderful layback and enjoy the peace and quiet (end of November).

Small island with paradisiac beaches.
All business are small and run by local families. Great place to run away from crowded places. Excelent for couples.
You can also get deep on the local life style.

Dear Sir,
I just came back from Gili Island Indonesia on 29th April 2018. I am disturbed and deeply saddened by how the horses in Gili Island are treated. They are used for transportation but not in the correct way and treated in the cruelest way. Below are my report of what I have investigated and observe from talking to the horses owners. I am doctor and an equestrian therefore I know when the condition of horses should be alarming.
1. The rules for horse carriage load in Gili island should be of "maximum of 4 people including the driver". However In Gili Island you can see most horses carrying 6-7 heavy tourist in small carriage along with their suitcases. Many times I can see the horses struggled to pull the carriage and some of them had to stop and slow down and look so exhausted due to the overload but the owner force them to continue. This will lead to animal sufferings from debilitating leg problems and fatal consequences. This is clearly BARBARIC. Horses are overworked to death for money purposes by their owners.
2. Most of the horses there are clearly "only small pony". But "the pony" are made to carry heavy carriage!
3. From investigating the owners, they said all the owners in the island owns 3 horses, therefore the horses take shift and not overworked. This is clearly not the case and still unacceptable because from what I observe, the horses look malnourished, exhausted, dehydrated. They were left in the hot sun while waiting for tourist, they were extremely dehydrated and tired. They have frosty saliva in the mouth which clearly is a sign of dehydration and it is alarming. We had to find water for the horses. The worst is they never take off the strip of the carriage from the horses while the horses are at rest from their work.
4. Yes I know theres a VET service that comes twice a year. But if it is so why are most of the horses are such in a bad condition.
5. My friends has contacted authorities in Gili Island, but they did not do much and said this is just a common issue and the animal protection can't interfere BECAUSE the horses have owners and its consider their own pet. Therefore organisation can't interfere. This is extremely nuisance. Animal abuse is still animal abuse regardless of they have owners or not.
6. Horse owners should NOT allow 6-7 heavy tourist/locals in one carriage along with their suitcases. Ive spoken to some of the volunteer there, their reasons was that it is because the tourist was the one who demand it from the owner. I think this is also ridiculous excuse. Horse owner should take ownership, the money is to support themselves but should be done in a proper way not forcing the horse to overworked in a cruel way. Tourist should also not ride these poor horses. It is disturbing and sickening to see them do so.
7. Gili Island should have their own soared powered Tuk Tuk to end this abuse, like small island in Thailand such as Krabi which used Tuk Tuk.
I will be telling all my family members and friends not to visit the islands until the conditions for horses have been improved.
Please do something about it. I shall write to the government and higher authorities and media as well. Please tell me who I can CONTACT, as email reply will be slow to alert attention since there is thousand of emails that comes daily.

If you care for the environment at all, do NOT visit any Gili Islands. There is no potabel water, the horses are worked to death without food and water, ocean is dead. The beaches are NOT for walking. It is all dead corals. Infrequently one can see a turtle and a few fish in the water. Disgustingly dirty NON BLUE water, noisy, smoking, filthy tourists, the absolute worst kind everywhere. As one side of the island is being built up more, the other side is collapsing. These people (all foreign investors) live not in an island but in a shallow corner of an island. They do not open their eyes to see what is happening on the other side of their own island. A horrible nightmarish place for any educated and environmentally conscious individudal.

Gili meno is one of the three north gili islands (the middle and smallest one) but crystal bay is a beach in another island called nusa penida (a much bigger island compared to gili islands). Nusa penida island is about half hour away from bali by fast boat while gili islands are about 2 hours away by fast boat from bali. It all depends on how many days you have to spare and what is your interest. Personally I would go for gili islands, gili islands however are more suitable for snorkeling as almost all the beach around gili meno and the others are surrounded by corals. While crystal bay in nusa penida is much more suitable for swimming. Hope that helps.

Hi, I'm considering the 3 Gili Islands as a family trip, Air, Meno and T, 5 nights on each, 2 questions if anyone can help, is it easy to arrange transport between islands once there and is there a sensible order to do the islands in? I'll be travelling with my wife and 10 year old son.
Many thanks.
Kevin

Inter island travel is fairly easy. Ferry offices on all islands. The quietest is Gili Meno but they are all fairly close to each other so island hopping is easy and reasonably priced.

Hi, how much does it cost to get from Gili to Lombok? To the nearest “port”?
Written April 6, 2019
Hi, sorry for the late response. We got a taxi from our hotel in Lombok and he arranged for a speed boat to take us. It was for 4 adults and we paid ÂŁ40 there and back, that incldued the taxi journeys. The speed boat ride was pretty hairy as there was a big swell-the boat from Bali had been stopped due th the big wave! We loved Gili Meno, we left it just 5 hours before the 2nd earthquake last August!

Can I buy durians on Gili Meno? I am planning to be there in the 2nd week of January.

I am not aware of anywhere you can do that. We changed our currency before we went on to the island. Enjoy!

Hi, we have booking at Gili Meno islands in the first week of Sep'18 (from 7th Sep). Due to recent earthquakes, we are concerned whether the resort will be operational by then and the islands are back to normal. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I did receive an email from Villa Mahamaya to say that their resort had been damaged and they would be open to the public until repairs had been carried out. It might be best the check in with the resort where your were going to stay

We are staying at Sudamala Suites, Lombok and wanted to go to Gilli Meno only, the hotel/tour company say that they only do trips to all 3 Gilli's. Has anyone done just the one island for a chilled day out? If so how did you get there etc?
Written July 15, 2018
We stayed at Seri Resort on the south end, which was great (minus the need for shoes on the rocky sand beach). Top notch but there were several great spots we walked past along the island.
