Every time we come to Ibiza a visit to Sta Gertrudis is a must. It has over the years become much more upmarket and trendy but it has not been spoilt, with the possible exception that the really interesting auction house with regular viewing days seems to have gone for good and the premises now house classy but expensive ceramics etc. and there are already a lot of this type of shop. There is a lovely little church too.

Bar Costa is the most famous cafe but for us oldies the seats outside, small low stools are too much for us to manage. Bar Santa Gertrudis next door is a better bet, and though we did not eat there the food we saw looked excellent quality, large portions and really cheap considering the location.

Santa Gertrudis de la Fruitera is a litttle town located near Ibiza Town, the main city in the homonymous Island. I came here at night in winter season, and it is a very nice and quite town. In fact, only has a few streets, where you can see the Mediterranean church of Santa Gertrudis, a little pedestrian zone with some bars like Bar Costa, restaurants and shops. A tiny town to walk and relax (in winter). Also in the surroundings of the town, there is on road an excellent restaurant and butcher shop: Can Caus.

If you love the Classic side of Ibiza then this is the place to go, we loved the little boutique shops there if your looking for clothing or lovely gifts or something for your home you'l find it there! There are great food place as well are high budget, but most are good priced. It not the biggest place, but it loved and looked after and lots of locals how love their village. Worth to go for a couple hours to relax and enjoy!

A great place for a wonder around. Blink and you will miss it on the main road. Street parking and town square are free. Great jewellery shops (all prices) and cafes. Unusual auction house as well. Go to Costa for a brilliant lunch / dinner .....no not the huge coffee chain. This has amazing Spanish ham off of the leg, a surprisingly wide range of modern art - take time to look around as the pictures are worthy of a beer!
Oh and the San Miguel is poured from taps in upturned pigs legs ( metal of course )
Prices were around £2 a coffee and £4 for a well stacked freshly cut Parma ham toasty.

I haven’t got an axe to grind and to be clear we did enjoy our visit to Santa Gertrudis but, we left with the impression that it was trying a bit to hard to fit with the hippy reputation that it has rather than actually ‘being’ hippy.

Much like in England the hippy culture has been adopted and gentrified so there is a corresponding hike in prices for almost everything.

Make no mistake, this is a nice place to visit and it still has a different feel from the rest of the island but it’s also not cheep and not particularly hippy (if that’s what you were looking for!)

No atmosphere. Over-flowing with tourists and Ex-pats. Not a typical village as I had expected. Very disappointed.

We wandered around this town in mid October. It was full of Spanish families as well as some tourists.

Some nice shops and lovely cafes.

A real taste of Ibiza ☀️
