Nestled on the rugged coast of San Marco di Castellabate, among pines, olive, arbutus and Lentischi, sorge l’ Approdo Thalasso SPA. Our Thalasso SPA is A REAL “SPA”, “Salus Per Aquam "or Romans, Health attraverso l’acqua. The sea water is our extraordinary resource. The crystal clear waters and the unspoiled coastline of this area of Cilento, located inside the National Park of Cilento and Marine Park of Punta Licosa, awarded the European Blue Flag for eight years consecutive, have contributed to the idea of creating a SPA that exploited this valuable resource to give welfare. So pools, tubs and showers are fed by seawater taken up with modern methodologies that guarantee the purity per kilometer 0.

This place is way too much money for the services rendered and the lack of professionalism and courtesy they give. There was a storm and we arrived at exactly the appointment time but for some reason, the check in process is done at the front desk- not in the spa- and the person took forever to complete the transaction. He then had to call the spa for clarification and then he made several mistakes with the payment process. After paying for the services, he again made a mistake and asked for 10 more Euros. He wasted so much of our time! We were not escorted to the spa area which is normal for any place I have ever received spa services, including places in Italy. When we finally were able to find the spa, we were given less time for the massage. We tried to explain to the spa receptionist everything that happened but they were in no way accommodating. So we paid full price, for in my case, practically half the time I paid for. The masseuse herself gave a good lymphatic massage though it only concentrated on the legs and for a minute on the stomach area- though I originally paid for full body. The massage room itself lacked air circulation and cool air and was not very relaxing. The table had a single sheet on it and all I heard throughout my massage was the sound of the vinyl cushioning on the table as my body moved on it. Afterwards, they offered tea and water but it’s mostly self serve. They haven’t quite understood how to provide 5 star services for the 5 star prices they expect. It was a learning experience. All in all, I will never come here again. The structure itself and location is great but the service itself needs a lot of help. I should have gone to Popelia resort. They know how to treat their customers.

Overrated spa

The spa is nice and offers a great experience, however it is not very well kept, over crowded, with just 1 choice of tea and only 2 types of fruit in the relaxation area, staff inside not well trained and very slippery areas

An incredible spa with many different of the best I have ever been to. Many salt pools, steam room, sauna, outdoor pool area, sun beds. A wide range of massages are available. I would highly recommend a visit.

Very Good but just not 5 stars
Oct 2018 • Couples
We only stayed at this hotel for one night, our room was in the annex building across the road from the main hotel.
A little small but comfortable and had a beautiful view of the harbour.
A couple of annoying things, The safe didn’t work, very nice kettle but no tea or coffee (when we asked at reception we were told they only supply herbal tea).
The toilet seat needed screwing together, the table lamp buzzed like a bee was in the room and last but not least, the room key was so heavy, we felt like jailers.
More positive the staff were great, the view was brilliant , and we had a smashing day at the spa, and that was superb and included in the price of our room. Thank you.

This could be the best place for miles, but it isn’t

The place is in a prime location, lovely beach, great spa and good food. But the service needs a massive improvements, they always treat you as if they are doing you a favour accepting your money and not someone else’s...the spa could be perfect if wasn’t for the lack of maintenance with a few lights missing here and there and small things like this, and also the fact that despite closing at 8pm (7:30pm downstairs) they start cleaning all rooms at 6pm which means you feel rushed rather than relaxed at that time. Also they wrote everywhere to practise silence, and keep quite...yet they accept groups of 10people and let them in all at once: what are the chances that they shut up and never talk to each other? Exactly...ZERO!!! Been here a few days and between the noise in the spa (which could be controlled) and the lack of care of most people from the reception to the waiters as well as the mosquitos everywhere this place is hardly a 4STAR hotel, sorry. A shame as it could be so much better with so little. The restaurant is great for breakfast, ok for lunch and decent for dinner, but with these prices I expect a lot more. Oh and if you are here you cannot miss the giant fallic statues on the terrace facing the port (see pic), I mean this is a family place with kids everywhere....absurd!

Great rooms and location
May 2017
The hotel and spa are in a great spot in San Marco, overlooking the harbour and out to sea. The spa facilities were very good with plenty of choice - steam rooms, sauna, flotation pool, thermo jet pool and plenty of areas to relax. I had an excellent body massage (though quite pricey). It would have been a nice touch to have an English translation for use of the spa area and descriptions of the treatments available. The bedroom and en-suite were both very spacious with hairdryer, safe and tea/coffee making facilities and fridge. The balcony overlooked the ocean and with the sliding doors open, I was lulled to sleep by the sound of the sea. The staff were helpful and friendly but what let the hotel down in my opinion was the restaurant food. Breakfast was the best meal with a reasonable selection of cheeses, cold meats, bread, pastries etc. Dinner in the evening was very disappointing which was such a shame. There was little choice and the salad bar was very limited and unimaginative. There is a huge lounge area wrapping around the hotel which is clean and comfortable but lacking in atmosphere due to the bright lights throughout. There are also plenty of places to sit outside and enjoy the sea views.

So "just chill" your bathrobe...(provided)
Aug 2016 • Solo

I loved it! Downstairs there are various chambers...salt scrub with heat...seaweed scrub, with heat...perfumed in all. All bathed in a muted blue relaxing!....(Our holiday booking allowed one hour per day)
Then, up to a rectangular pool....with various "stations" and buttons to press that have the water pummel, massage...and then you can float out to the outside pool..again, some bubbles and stuff. To be fair, folk not too steady on their feet did not like the slippy- ness of the downstairs chambers. Top floor, a relaxation area...views over the harbour...carrot and celery sticks...fruit, teas...

Lovely hotel
Sep 2015
I stayed at this hotel last September for a week with a group tour. The hotel is situated very close to the beach, and I loved it. The sea is quite rough because the beach is very rocky and therefore I do not feel it would be appropriate for families with small children as the current is strong. The hotel itself is nice, the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. There is a bus which stops close to the hotel to go to Castellabate and Santa Maria at various times during the day, is costs just one euro to go to Santa Maria, which is the next fishing village. San Marco itself is very small, it is a real 'get away from it all place', the piazza is very close to the hotel and as is usual for Italian villages, there is a beautiful church in the centre of the square. I found the food at the Approdo Hotel is very good, contrary to some other reviews. Although the portions are quite small, the main meal begins with a salad bar and you can have as much as you want, the next course is the starter, followed by the main course and then desert. It is quite usual in Italy to have four or five small courses and yes, the dishes are large with a small indent for the food, but considering the amount of courses available, for most people, it would be sufficient. I would highly recommend this hotel and would consider returning one day

The spa at this hotel is well worth the travel. Bedrooms and service very good, though food a bit basic.
