Sadly we could not enter the Lighthouse on the day we were in Vila Real but we strolled there to take a look. Impressive lighthouse even more so against the deep blue sky on the day we were there.

Vila Real de Santo Antono is a lovely place. Unfortunately I had an accident so couldn't see as much of it as I wanted to.
The houses are very interesting. There are many shops and restaurants. The locals are extremely friendly.
For the most part the centre is pedestrianised so it makes sight seeing easy and pleasant. I will definitely be going again when I can walk. It's a fascinating place.
If you stay at the Apolo hotel you are right at the start of the pedestrian precinct and a short walk will bring to to the ferry across the river to Ayamonte.

Farol de Vila Real de San Antonio is the lighthouse located in the coastline of Vila Real de San Antonio, in the west part of Algarve, in the South of Portugal. it is a beautiful building, which you can see from some streets of the town. Ok.

A truly beautiful small whitewashed town.
Stunning architecture designed by the same architect that planned Lisbon.
Lovely marina leading up to well laid out streets and squares.Cross river passenger ferry to Spain departs from here.Very inexpensive.Dont forget that the time in Spain is one hour later so don't miss your ferry back!

A trip to the Farol light house is well worth it. You can either climb the stairs or get the lift up to the viewing platform and when you get there the views are stunning. Only opens one afternoon a week but well worth the time and effort if you manage to get there

Bom dia! Sei que há apenas um dia da semana em que o farol está aberto a visitas mas, uma vez que terminaram as férias de Verão por aqui, não sei exactamente qual é. É uma instalação da Marinha Portuguesa. A visita é grátis.
