Accademia Tadini, one of the most precious and old museum in Lombardia, is located really close to the lake and the historical centre of Lovere, in a nice Neoclassical Palace, built by conte Luigi Tadini in early XIX century for his collection. Here you can find two masterpieces by Antonio Canova, and some paintings from well known artists (e.g. Jacopo Bellini, Bordon, Campi, Palma il Giovane, Tiepolo, Hayez, Oprandi), and also some nice works by unknown artists. There is also a collection of old weapons, archeological evidences and wonderful porcelain (China, Sèvres, Meissen, Vienna and Capodimonte). Good outfitting. Nice guides. Don't miss the little church where Faustino Tadini (the young son of Luigi) is buried. Very good place for art lovers. Highly recommended.

i traveled from Bergamo to view a specific painting in this museum and was pleasantly surprised by the variety of artwork available. The main floors do feel a little outdated, but the upper floor with contemporary art is new and bright - displaying many beautiful paintings by artists from the region. Artwork on the main floors is briefly described in Italian and English on pages located in each room. The staff was especially welcoming and helpful. In particular, Andrea Petteni saved my neck when an accidence halted all bus service out of Lovere and he gave me a ride (almost) to Bergamo - far beyond the service expected by museum staff. It was a MOST memorable visit.

The Academy only opens on weekends because Lovere is not touristy.
Lovere is an industrial city and the railway equipment that is made there - of the highest quality - still goes around the world today.
We Loveresi are proud of this, also because it does not force us to act as servants when we do not want to.
A bit like Count Luigi Tadini, a landowner in Crema, a city he left for his Napoleonic sympathies, so uncomfortable for his countrymen's suck-ups.
Here the Count decides to settle after the death of his son, bringing his Collections and setting up an art and music school - still existing - financed by the incomes of his properties.
The gallery does not have Raphaels or Caravaggi, but has an excellent and well selected collection from the Middle Ages to the 1960s, with quality works.
The spring concert season hosted Salvatore Accardo, Severino Gazzelloni, the Italian Quartet, Uto Ughi, Thiollier, and I don't remember who else is an international musician. Having a school like that in your country feels good, you know.
But you see, you tourists will not be able to feel at home.
Also because you can understand Palazzo Tadini from the lake, maybe from a boat of Canottieri Sebino that is 500 meters away and a lot of effort and commitment away.
That's too bad.

I don't know much about art and the old painting left me a little cold but enjoyed the modern art section.

Lovere is certainly a decent village but the management of this academy is an incredible indication of zero aptitude for tourism. From November to March it is closed or rather open only by reservation with a fixed cost of 70 euros in addition to the cost of entrance tickets. This is a guided tour lasting one hour. Perhaps the price can be justified but why not allow free visits in the afternoon as in the summer months? To think that there are important works.... Incredible indifference and zero respect for those who arrive in Lovere attracted precisely by the works contained in the museum.

The academy has an interesting collection, given the size of the village. As a friend of Canova there is a bust and a funeral stele created by the sculptor. Take the opportunity to visit the palace if you pass through the fascinating Lovere.

The charm of collections lovingly curated by the private collector. Count Tadini, patron of his artistic entourage, leaves an indelible memory even today. A thought for the young Faustino Tadini immortalized by Canova with the mourning of a marble stele.
