About
Starting from the Antiquarium Museum, near which you can visit the Romanesque church of St. Mary Magdalene with it’s famous Gothic tower, you embark on the waters of the lake, crossing the so-called “Zoca de l’oli” to reach the Comacina Island.

We ended up here just by luck and it was the best thing that could have happend.
Sure, it´s kinda expensive. But it is woth every penny. We hade their light lunch menu for 55 euro and it was delicious. Even though we did´t have their full menu we where completly satisfied by the end of the meal. And this place have one of the most sutnning views to behold in this world.
The staff was so friendly and welcomning and most of them spoke excelent english.
If you have the chanse to spend a long lunch here, take it!

The food here was simple but delicious. It is a 6 course set menu consisting of, tomato served with lemon and a selection of vegetables (all delicious), crusty bread, cooked ham & parma ham, salmon trout, fried chicken, ice-cream and peaches, cheese & brandy coffee. We were absolutely stuffed after it. It's not a cheap day, the food was approx 65 euros per person and the boat over was 6 euro return per person. The food does include wine and water, we had a bottle of white and asked for a bottle of red too as most people did. There are two sittings per day, 2pm and 7pm. We went at 2pm on a Sunday and it was great to see all the activity on the water as the lake was very busy being at the weekend. My advice would be to go as early as possible as even though your sitting is at 2, you can go over to the island and have a drink and soak up the atmosphere! We didn't need any dinner that evening as we were still so full!

A beautiful spot and interesting archaeological site but the only way there is by boat (or canoe) and for us the boat trip and was expensive and the admission price to the island hard to justify. The fact is that there are more intact and just as important archaeological sites on the land side. €3 at the bar there for a bottle of water was the most priciest water during my 10 day stay at Lake Como, just unnecessary price-gouging.

Very enjoyable walk round the island. Lovely spot for a picnic, and there are clean free loos.
The cafe is massively overpriced.

Have visited the island many times before this trip,August Ist.There is now a charge of 5 € to walk around the island,I realise that there is a cost for upkeep etc. but we thought that was a bit steep on top of the 7 €, 3 minute ferry trip, even a lot of the locals (Como area) didn't realise there is now a charge.Having said all that still worth visit for the peace and interesting history of the place.

The island is surprisingly nice to walk across as it contains a number of excavations (of former churches) and some modern art displays. This is however all one should do there. The restaurant is overpriced as is the water taxi to get there. Best mode of transportation is to hire a paddle boat for 10 Euro an hour and paddle yourself across (only 200 meters). An hour should get you across the island and back. A better attraction is the Villa Balbianello which is much more interesting and more affordable.

The island is nice for a pause and has a 360 degree view through the lake. The remains of the basilica are boring and only a few obtained. But the most disappointing thing is the taxi boat drive from the 150m distant waterfront to the island. For 3 adults and 1 child we paid 28€ for 2 minutes ride each way. The bomb came at the island. After been dropped we learned the island entering costs 15€ for a family and just till 7pm. Then we decided to try the large restaurant. But at 18:25 we learned opening hours starts from 7pm. Finally we were caught at the island between more costs and impertinences. We decided to take the disappointing visit of the island for a special price for a friend of 6€, because if having just 30 minutes left.

Once is enough, kind of like going to the top of the Empire State Building. That being said, the process of getting their had a romance to it, but the captain of the little boat killed that right away as he was all business. The setting was lovely and the food was good. We were first to be seated and the restaurant was empty. That soon changed within minutes as other couples and a tour group arrived. We were first to be served and as our courses were changed in good time at the beginning, we began to sit with our finished plates in front of us for longer and longer. We realized that the kitchen was getting everyone onto the same course toward the end. Therefore, first in; last out. It was a 3-1/2 h lunch, but the couple next to us was seated for half that time with both of us receiving the same exact meal. The goal is to have everyone done with their food so the maitre'd and owner, Benvenuto could give a very long speech in italian only and start his coffee on fire and serve it. We were not fans. We felt we were held captive. If there was a large group of friends traveling together who could afford a eu 70 per person meal and boat ride charge, it would be an enjoyable event. Not sure what happens to those unsuspecting travelers who don't check ahead about credit cards vs. cash as they only take cash. After all you are on an island? Just saying.

We took the boat from below the Antiquarium Museum in Ossuccio (call the telephone number on the pier; the boat arrived about 10mins later; 7 euros return fare each, another 4 euros on the island). The walk around the island is peaceful, with lovely views. (NB When you arrive on the island, there is an outdoor toilet behind the cafe to the right). We waited about 15mins for the return boat trip.

You can catch a boat from Ossuccio by the Lido, or the Restaurant further over which are frequent, or the larger ferry. There is a fee if you want to explore the Island or you can hire a canoe/boat and land on the beach for free. Not a huge amount to see if you do go and explore, the small cafe is open during the day and does simple food and drinks, the restaurant is open at specific times and food is alright, but not all that.

I am renting a boat in Bellagio and touring the lake all day. Is it possible to dock my privately rented boat at Isola Comacino while we have lunch there? If so, is there a fee?
Written September 16, 2016
not sure and don't know who you would contact about that. recommend asking the rental company.

We are in Belaggio and want to go to Isola Comacino for lunch. A private taxi quoted us 410 euros round trip for six people. Not doable. Any suggestions about public transportation?
