The ruins of this big fort are suggestive and well maintained, with plenty of signs explaining the relatively short history of the place. Great views over the lake and the Alps, peaceful location on a hill surrounded by forests, fields and farms and plenty of opportunities to hike around. The girl at the ticket office was very friendly and helpful, told us about the fort and gave us suggestions for the visit.

This castle has gone through a lot of changes and shows it age. The only work that has been done is on the entrance the rest has been shored up in the state it was 'found'. The signage is good and explains what each area was used for including more recent conflicts. You have to like looking at historical buildings for this to appeal. Be aware there are no facilities on this site, so go before you get there! There are really nice views from the top. I was intrigued by the lack of water availability when it was built and having to fetch water on a daily basis from the next mountain along! Poor mules. Also whilst never engaging in battles roughly 10% of the soldiers died from malaria.

Dear guest, thank you for the visit but the castle was destroyed by Napoleone not from the time. When we opened this Spanish fortress of the VII century, it was completely hidden by the forest. What you saw is our best effort to make you show the history that remains from 400 years ago.

We've visited this place by bike from camping green village (bike path next to the river Adda) and then short walk through the forest. It is obviously not official way how to get there as there is small sign on cycle road so we have missed it on first try and also there is no place to park bicycles so we just locked them on the grass next to road. I can imagine nice lake view, but there was couple of trees on this direction so instead of lake there was good view on some factory or what. The surrounding is well maintained and there few people there so quite place to rest a while.

We went first to the Fort Monacchiera so it was a bit easier to understand the idea of the fort, especially for little hikers. It was a great place to visit and had chance to take some stunning pictures and do some history lesson. If you are a geocacher you can find here some hidden treasures.

We got the boat to Calico and wanted to visit this fort. We couldn't find any taxis and even when we got to the train station there were still no taxis to be found. So we walked down to the fort which took us about 45 minutes and that was us walking fast. There are brown signs that you can follow which is helpful. You then have to walk up the hill to the fort. Once there you pay for your tickets and can get a soft drink or water if needed. The guy in the ticket booth wasn't very helpful. We asked him for a taxi number which he replied saying he didn't know any!!!!! So we walked round the ruins and read the boards about the history of the fort which was interesting. We wanted to get to the other fort to do the tour 2pm tour so had to leave quickly as we needed to walk back to it. So a short and sweet visit with an unhelpful staff member.

Dear guest, Colico is a small city and there's not a taxi always present at the station. It is possible to call him by phone, but the guide have not this number and, unfortunately, have not an internet connection to search for a taxi. We apologize for this inconvenient. Now we have given to our guides a board with all the numbers (taxi, tourist office, and others), in case of internet failed connection. Thank you for your review.
