A bit of a hike to white-sands on Ben Derg beach at the far side, but well worth it. Access only by walking so really quiet in summer. Bring a picnic and you won't be disappointed!

We drove through this area and stopped along the coast at the beach near Killard. This place is a gem of natural beauty and off the beaten track. Not many people seem to know about this area. Beaches are often deserted.

Benderg Beach - on Ballyhornan side of the reserve (can be seen from Ballyhornan Beach car park) is a lovely safe sheltered beach for a swim and I have walked it in Jan with a t-shirt on !!!

Lovely area short walk with lot of bird life seals and rockpools. Very springwatch. We whiled away a couple of hours in the sunshine, which we are told is very rare here!

Thank Alison R
