As I had more daylight after returning from my well-organized/very safe Salinas Grande colectivo tour (~700pesos), I Gimpwalked around Purmamarca, enjoying this heavily-tourist oriented community. Of course, the plaza is the cultural highlight of this community, fronted on one end by the ancient church, surrounded by artisanal vendors, and full of historical information, I liked the community very much. It is rather crowded, a good sign as one never feels isolated unless venturing out on their own for spiritual renewal/enhancement. I highly recommend this significant site, and give it my hearty “iWheel of Approval!”

This place is full with sellers, where you can buy nice sweathers or scarfs for very good prices. Nice local people in this part im Purmamarca where you never feel threatened.

The square is absolutely full of artisans selling their products, which was exactly what we were looking for. We ate at a great restaurant right off the square and enjoyed some of the other shops on surrounding streets as well.

Not the biggest or prettiest square in Argentina but charming nevertheless. It has a couple of little bars to offer sustenance and plenty of street traders to top up on your craft shopping but perhaps the best thing is the presence of an ATM which must be the only one for 50 miles!

It may be relatively small but this plaza was full of life. It was surrounded with vendors selling blankets, clothing and trinkets. Little boys were kicking around a football/soccer ball. Adults were catching up on things. There is a nice indigenous statue in the plaza’s center.

As any main square in small towns this is where a lot of artisans display their products, it is two blocks from the bus station. Purmamarca is quite small so you will visit it anyway. There is a place in a corner where you can get the tortillas that everyone eats (and they are good all over!) If I recall correctly it costs 50ARS to try and there are different fillings.

A very tranquil place to be, walk around, look at and buy the local products. The textile is quite nice and good. Prices very reasonable.

Lots of stalls with crafts, scarves, throws etc make this a colourful centre. We stopped for a snack and a beer in the sun but the church. There is a playground for kids in the middle.

Nice to visit with very typical places and market. In the center of the town impossible not to find. Around it the small church and the Cabildo, all beautiful.

This large square brings buskers, artisans, school kids, the elderly, backpackers and suit clad gentlemen all together in the centre of Salta! Great people watching and a pretty churchbto boot!
