The road from Purmamarca to the Salinas Grandes was breath taking with the even changing coloured mountains and rock formations. The very steep winding road offered such spectacular views. The road took us from around 2000 m to 4170 m at the highest point where we stopped for a few minutes to take photos on unsteady feet.

I highly recommend this drive.

Scenic drive up onto the high plateau and on to the salt flats. Be prepared this is high so you will have shortness of breath if you try to do anything a bit strenous. However it is worth it - the views of the coloured hills and rock formations are fantastic. Keep your eyes open for vicuna, guanaco and ostrich.

It is inevitable in mountainous terrain that switchbacks are part man’s efforts to get from A to B. They are only part of the drama of the expansive view from this location. On the drive from Salta to Purmamarca, it was the highlight. That you are at over 4,000m is part of the experience but the totality of the view is simply striking. The wine and cheese our tour provided was an added bonus.

Stand at 4170 meters and take in the remarkable scenery. The view of the road as it climbs in a series of switchbacks make you wonder at the engineering required.

You will experience a bit of shortness of breath at the pass but the views from Purmamarca up this road to the pass and then down onto the high plains.

Make sure you stop to view the road that winds its way up to this pass. Be aware December through to March according to our guide is high season. We were there just before the start so I'd imagine lots of people.

We did the trip from Purmamarca to the salt lake and back. This is a must do drive on this amazing road. Apart from 3 short sections the road is in good condition. The views are amazing both sides. The salt lake and the Mirrador although both good were secondary to the drive and the views. Very very highly recommended

You take this pass on your way to the salt flats and as mentioned by others, it is spectacular. We had rented a car and were able to take our time to enjoy the sceneries. So different from the majestic Rocky Mountains or the Pyrenees, but equally spectacular. Worth the trip for sure.

The whole area is filled with wonderful views and fantastic nature. Abra de Potrerillos is the place with the highest altitude in the area, with some REALLY breath-taking landscapes.

Excellent place, its people and its culture. Really, the Argentine north makes every landscape seen invade us in the depths of our soul.

Considered the highest point of the Cuesta de Lipan, it has a stunning and beautiful view, which cannot be found anywhere. Most tours that go to Salinas Grandes stop there to take photos. Despite the altitude, it is not a place that requires excessive care, as there is no physical effort that requires great body resistance.
