We had an early visit to Passopisciaro, which is Andrea Franchetti’s winery on Mount Etna in Sicily. Very interesting. This winery was more expensive than most others that we visited, at 20 euro per person, but the visit was lengthy and quite nice. We visited each of their vineyard plots at various heights on the slopes of Mt. Etna. We then returned to the winery and toured the rooms there. We ended our visit with a tasting of each of their 7 wines (1 white and 6 red). The reds were all excellent, though the Franchetti was above and beyond, garnering a 97-point score from Robert Parker recently. As a result, it sold high, but it was excellent to try anyway.

Overall - very highly recommended. You won't be disappointed giving this place a shot!

We scheduled a private tour, wine tasting and lunch with our families here before our wedding in Acireale. They were very accommodating for a group of 15 people and arranged a very nice wine tasting with a delicious lunch of local specialties. The tour was also very informative and the host was very friendly. We ended up ordering a few cases of the Franchetti wine because we enjoyed it so much.

And we are so glad that he did. We were running late for our tour as we tried to fit too much into one day, but our tour guide was most hospitable and professional during our tour of this chemical free winery. The owner, Andrea Franchetti, is famous in Tuscany and has now branched out into Sicily. He restored a vineyard and facilities that had been abandoned and is terraced up the sides of Mt Etna. The wines are excellent, as are the views, but we found them to be the priciest that we had tasted on our trip. However, we totally understand the critical acclaim he has received and the high scores from wine critics for his Mt Etna winery.

Yes it's 25 euro pp just for 4 small tastings (no food) and a tour. Yes gambino gives you 6-7 big pours with a ton of cheese and mushrooms/olives/tomatoes for 15 euro pp, but still passopisciato has its charms. The wine is high quality, the vineyard is intimate and Letizia is a great guide. We had a blast.

Part of our tour in Sicily was the winery Passopisciaro. Absolutely excellent wine. From our cruise ship, sicilyshoretours.com took us to Taormina and then to the foot of Mt. Etna for a tour of Passopisciaro. 6 of us. And a wonderful delicious light lunch. Would highly recommend this winery. Consistently rates in the 90's in Wine Spectator. Spectacular day!!! And it doesn't have the crowds from the cruise ships!! Truly a wonderful, private experience. Would definitely recommend.

Vera Russo hosted my family of 5, incl 3 teenagers, on a tour of the vineyard, winery and then walked us through a tasting of Planeta's wines and olive oils.
A good story told by a very knowledgeable and passionate guide.
Zero pressure to buy anything, and in any case, having been long time Planeta fans, we didn't need to be encouraged to take a carton with us!
A very pretty part of the world amongst the larval flows, and some seriously interesting architecture, both in terms of the renovated wine/olive press building, and the new barrel room at the winery.

One of the smallest and though best wineries on the Etna. Do not miss it when you are viting Etna and want to discover some excellent wines

We visit Planeta Estate in July as a family. We were amazed by Vera Ruso and the knowledge she imparted regarding the wine. The actual vineyard was beautiful and set up so nicely for us. Lunch was the best meal I had in Sicily and I think they made the whole trip informative, educational, and delicious.

Thank you.
