I waited to write this until I had confirmation my order had actually shipped. Still haven't received it, but just in case there is someone thinking to go there soon, I must echo the other negative reviews and say CARRY IT WITH YOU. We visited the shop in Deruta, where the proprietress was very friendly, and they did have a few unusual designs we did not see elsewhere.
They fortunately did not have the type of items I was looking for for myself, so just bought an appetizer set (same style as above, but common Tuscan design) for a friend. Then we went down the hill and I found an entire set of dinnerware and accessories at MOD that was what I wanted. Their prices at MOD were noticeably lower for the same types of items, but of course none were exactly the same.
My MOD shipment arrived over one month ago, just a few weeks after purchase. There were many more items in the shipment, and total cost of shipping, in a very sturdy crate, was 80 euros. My friend still had not received her gift, so I wrote to Fanny asking what was happening with the shipment. No response.
Then my friend got an email from a logistics company in Italy asking for her credit card info as they needed to charge her 165 euros for shipping her item. She found other, earlier ones in her spam folder.
I of course told her to ignore the emails and wrote to the company myself, explaining I had already paid 130 euros to Fanny for shipping, and also wrote to Fanny asking again where the shipment was.
Finally heard from both companies that everything was cleared and the shipment was given to FEDEX, 2 months after I ordered it. I'll mention that common design again.
As this appetizer set was the first ceramic item I had ordered to be shipped, I had no comparison for prices. The proprietress said she usually charged 125 euros, but would I mind 5 more as there might be some fluctuations. Sure. So, I paid 130 euros, another company tried to get another 165 euros, and the place down the hill shipped three times as much for 2/3 the price.
At worst, it's scamming tourists. At best it's an incredibly unorganized factory and shipping arrangements.
So, if you see something you really really like, take it with you and ship it yourself.

My wife always wanted to visit Deruta to buy some pottery. So we stopped by on a trip to Assisi from the villa we rent in Lucca. We bought several pieces and paid to have them shipped home - BIG mistake. After a couple months I called and finally spoke to the person who sold us the stuff. It was easy to remember his name because it was also Luca. He said they were waiting for one of the pieces to be completed and the order would ship next week. Several more months went by - Nothing. Called again, different story - same result. This went on for two years. I googled the store and read a couple of very similar stories. We rent the villa every two years so on our next visit we made a special trip to Deruta. Luca recognized me immediately when we walked through the door and turned a surprising shade of crimson. He knew why we were there and produced everything we had paid for two years ago. He even threw in a couple of nice pieces for free. Then he offered to ship it for us! I declined and said we would take it with us. It cost a few extra dollars to ship it all home at a shipping store, but it arrived shortly after we got home. I checked the oldest box Trip Advisor would let me, but this all happened several years ago. Hopefully, Luca has changed his ways!

I have to agree with other reviewer who expressed same opinion. Unfortunately I did not read his review until I returned from Italy. Luca, who says he is the store owner and also has a factory , if not a cheat, is certainly the worst business owner I have encountered.
I bought 4 pieces from him--he said the freight would be 60Euros and would ship in 10 days.
After 5 emails (which he ignored) and one phone call, I received a response that he would be sending my order to his shipping agent--this was 35 days after purchase. The shipping agent said he would send package once I paid him 160Euros--almost 3 times what Luca quoted. Had I known this was the actual cost, I would not have purchased these items, since freight added $55 each in shipping cost to my purchase price.
When the 4 pieces arrived, one was not the design I ordered and and looked like a factory second, Another piece did not sit flat on table (uneven bottom) and would also be factory second it the factory had any quality control.
There are many other stores near his store and unless this town is full of thieves, I think they would be a better choice-- a better idea would be to buy and take ceramic ware with you, this would eliminate all these headaches.

I guess the old reviews are correct. Luca may have improved (see 2009 review) due to the poor reviews, however, my experience has ben awful. First, Luca promised a high quality product in 2 months delivery. My plates were not ready until April (over 3 months). When I picked them up I was very disappointed. The quality is "seconds". The dishes had sand in the glaze, smudges all over the back - even on the front of the white part of the dinner plate, and the paint in the designs bled into other colors. Luca told me it was the best he could do since they are "lead free" paints. I also requested the artist signature on each and not one plate (of 24) had a signature. Very sloppy and second rate work for very expensive ceramics. Since I paid 50% deposit he will not refund my money which is a huge loss to me. Do not pay cash if you take a chance on this. Luca is very nice but his product is awful.

My wife and I visited on our honeymoon in April 2014 and made a custom order and have not received anything in the mail. For three months I have been trying to connect with Luca Pimpinelli and he has provided no indication on when we will receive the order. The last communication was a month ago with a short email to contact a third party shipping company and there has been no response from either him or the shipping company since. DO NOT GO HERE.

CERAMICHE FANNY of Deruta has been the subject of many unflattering comments on this site, and others, most of which were posted several years ago and before. I have no personal knowledge of what has happened in the past but I can report the experience of my wife and I which occurred in June of 2009.
We ordered a full place setting for eight with extra pieces. We paid in advance. Luca promised a high quality product and delivery in six (6) weeks. We received just exactly that in six (6) weeks. Two of the dinner plates were broken during the shipping process. We notified Luca of this and he agreed to replace the two plates immediately. We received them in about seventeen (17) days. We were not required to go through the hassle of pursuing an insurance claim against the shipper.
We are extremely happy with the product and the service would not hesitate to order from Ceramiche Fanny in the future.

I ordered an item that was "IN STOCK". As of 9/22/11 I have still not received my purchase and the current status is "Estimated Delivery Date 10/02/11". I've been hanging on 'HOLD' on the phone for over 20 mins. I will never purchase from him again!

Beware of making purchases at Fanny of Deruta. I was promised arrival of my order of ceramic tableware by the end of November at a shipping cost of approximately 100 Euro when I placed my order in the store on Oct 4. When my order didn't arrive, I called the store and was told my shipment would arrive by Dec 10, necessary because many of the purchases were Christmas gifts. When the shipment didn't arrive by Dec 10, I called and was assured it would arrive in time for Christmas. I expressed concern that that would require higher shipping costs because of the need for expedited shipping. I was assured that any extra costs would be covered by Fanny. The shipper contacted me on Dec 19 and requested payment of 200 Euro to ship my purchase. I provided my credit card and immediately called Luca at Fanny who told me he would pay half of the charge. He did not follow through with that promise and refuses to make good on his promise to pay half the shipping charge. In addition, several pieces were not signed, the large platter was not the requested design and several pieces have errors in them. Avoid this store! There are many reputable stores in Deruta but Fanny is not one of them!"

We visited Ceramiche Fanny Deruta in late October, 2010 and placed an order for four platters with family names on the back. We were pleased to have such a large choice of designs, housed in two showrooms. Luca was very helpful and said that any design could be put on any shape plate, platter, etc. We chose four and Luca carefully wrote up the receipt, going over it twice. We paid cash for the items and gave a credit card number for the shipping. He said that the pieces would be ready by mid-December and we'd have them for Christmas. Perfect!!
By December 10 I was starting to get nervous and e-mailed a few times. When I didn't hear back for a few days, I started to get really nervous, and that's when I read the reviews on TripAdvisor. My heart sank, but alas, not to worry. I e-mailed once more, said I had read the unflattering reviews on TripAdvisor and really wanted to write a good one. Almost immediately I got an e-mail saying the pieces were ready to ship. An added complication on our part was that my purse was stolen in Italy, after we'd given Luca our credit card number for shipping costs. We heard from the shipper, "Logistics" in Assisi, and sent our number in a few separate e-mails. Didn't hear anything until we got a phone message from FedEx, saying a parcel would be delivered on Christmas Eve. We waited, waited, waited. . .and voile, at 4 p.m. the parcel arrived.
With baited breath, we unpacked the well-wrapped, well-padded box. We pulled out four exquisite platters, exactly what we ordered, exactly perfect names on the back. It was a wonderful Christmas surprise for us and for our grown kids. Luca at Ceramiche Fanny delivered as promised!

My experience is the same as many but we visited the store in Assisi. They also have shops in Spello and Deruta. Another name associated with this store is Sberna. We chose our items and took pictures of some of them in September 2017. By November we still did not have our items and they did not return our emails until we contacted our guide from Assisi for help. The ceramics arrived in December. The entire order was incorrect and even though we had taken pictures and exchanged emails for the next several months, the subsequent order they sent us was still incorrect. Do not shop here.

Good day,
I saw your post on line and I am trying to reach
LE CERAMICHE DI LUCA DERUTA.
There is no working phone number and we have purchased a large number of items that after 8 weeks have not arrived. We have called her and get a message that the phone is no longer in service. Could you please send a phone number to me so that I could call her
Thank you
