This is an old French colonial pharmacy that was turned into am museum over 40 years ago. The hand painted French porcelain vases are stunning and the medical instruments are a step back in time.

A wonderful museum. A real surprise. Wonderfully presented even if you are not into pharmacy. The only complete 20th century pharmacy shop in the world. Untouched since 1964(apart from cleaned obviously).

A lovely lady showed us around who was obviously hugely proud of the lace.

Please support this astonishing museum

What a place! Even if you don't have an interest in medicines or herbs, visit this place. They have a handout for visitors in English that makes a self tour very informative. Not at all crowded. Wonderful herbal information. They are getting ready to open the upstairs, which was the family's living quarters. Had a sneak preview. WOW! I will visit again.

Most museums gather fragments of their area of specialty, and use them to tell a story. This one is a story in its own right - not a fragment, but an entire pharmacy frozen in amber.

All of the jars and vases and drawers full of the medicines used in Cuba a century or more ago are arrayed just as they would have appeared to a late 19th or early 20th century customer. Total immersion in a different world. And beautiful to behold.

Matanzas is not going to be on everyone's dance card, but if you are in the neighborhood, do stop and see.

This amazing museum on Parque Libertad, at the heart of Matanzas. It is opened in 1885 by the Triolet family and now it is cellebrating 50th birthday as museum. Good spending time here, so much to learn. Our guide Pedro was just amazing, on his spanish, french and english translations, and detailled explenations. Bravo,. Super place.

This is an old pharmacy from the 1800s with the actual medicine in the original jars. Also the supplies they used to make the medicine. We were given a tour and the guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic

The Pharmaceutical Museum is in an unassuming building in the centre of Matanzas, and an eye-opener for it's grandeur when you walk into the building.
There's a $3 CUC admission per person, and you'll get a handy description chart to look around. They will give you a full tour if you ask, or they are close-by if you have a question, your choice.
The museum is filled with old, antique and ancient pharmacy artifacts, including books that go back hundreds of years!
Be sure to view the upper level art room while there, and also look up to see the 'walk-around' in the center room.
An excellent tourist destination.

Best pharmacology museum in the world with the most original products intact still in the bottles or packages. It is worth visiting Matanzas for this alone. Plan a good hour or more to visit. Guides are great. Don't forget to go upstairs and look out the balcony onto the park. Great view! When you are done go see Sauto Theater, Hotel Velasco, Municipal Museum, Museo de los Bomberos, Second Plaza de Armas and its buildings, Bellamar Caves, Memorial-Museum “El Morrillo”, Museo de Arte de Matanzas, Museo Provincial (Palacio de Junco), San Severino Castle, Yumurí Valley, Cafetal La Dionisia historical plantation (look it up on Google), Cueva Saturno, Playa Corales and between 5:50 and 620PM every night in from of this museum thousands of birds arrive and sign in unison. Don't miss it. We had food and drinks at the brand new hotel next door and watched Mother Nature at her best. Nature's free concert!

Cuban drugstore frozen in time exhibits alchemy of the 1950s. The long lady behind the counter was laid back and either only spoke Spanish or very reluctant to answer questions in English, German and French. A simple little place to walk back in time.

This is a fascinating collection of historical pharmaceutical supplies and instruments. We had a private and informative tour by one of the staff. But we also had a bilingual member in our party, so we were able to get the history and ask questions. They still have all the original log books, which are fascinating.
