Our group of 4 had a good time overall at the Iberostar Selection Hacienda Dominicus, with some caveats. We travelled to the resort from Toronto at the end of Nov for a 7 day stay. I would definitely come back to this area of DR, but probably would not return here unless the rooms are improved.

Pros: The beach is absolutely gorgeous, soft clean sand, clear water with no seaweed, definitely the highlight of the trip and resort. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Almost all the staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful. We didn't swim in the pools but they looked great and there was always plenty of room by the pool. The weather at the end of Nov/early Dec was great, hot and sunny with minimal rain. The food at the buffet was quite good for an all inclusive, a lot to choose from and tasty. The beach and daytime entertainment staff were great, many activities available. There was only a couple evening shows during our stay, the Michael Jackson one was quite good. There is live music nightly but the nighttime entertainment wasn't very lively compared to other resorts we've been too, perhaps this is due to covid. Wifi was good and consistent. The concierge at the hotel arranged our PCR tests to return and made the process very easy. The Saona Island excursion was fantastic and leaves right from the resort if you book with Dressel Divers (highly recommend).

Areas for Improvement: We stayed in standard rooms in building 5 and were not impressed. I suggest booking an upgraded room at this resort as the maintenance in the standard rooms is lacking, perhaps due to the covid closure. My parents switched rooms on our first night because the AC was not working in room one, and their TV & mini fridge had to be replaced in room 2. Reception was helpful both times, but after a long travel day this was not ideal. All the pillows in the room smelled terrible due to the humidity and there was a large coating of mold and spilled liquid under our mini fridge that was never cleaned during our stay. There was only one outlet by the bed that was used by the phone, so we were constantly unplugging it to charge things. Our own AC was intermittent and some of our lights would stop working randomly. This did not ruin our trip by any means as we didn't spend much time in the rooms, but it was disappointing.

We went to 2 of the 4 a la carte restaurants and they were both pretty bad. The food at the Mexican restaurant was served cold and El Colonial was not very good either, we ended up opting for the buffet for the rest of the trip. The drink selection is quite limited and the quality of the drink varied wildly from order to order.

As some other reviews mentioned, a large portion of guests were Spanish speakers and many of the staff did not speak English. We did not find it difficult to get by overall and everyone was very willing to help, but we did notice the language barrier daily.

There was some sales staff on the resort (jewellery, photography, etc) that were extremely pushy and I found the interactions uncomfortable. Do not get roped into the "important information session" or presentation by the resort staff, this is a 2 hour sales pitch for the Iberostar star prestige program.

This is a common issue at resorts but the loungers on the beach were nearly all booked up by 7am. People went to the beach as early as 5am to place their towels on loungers and some didn't come back for most of the day.

In hotel 4 restaurants, La Colonial French restaurant is the best with service, girl who is greeting guests is the best, so acknowledged, polite and friendly, service fast, food very delicious, all my family-5 people love this restaurant!!!! Thank you so much stuff!!!
Yesterday we did have very bad experience with Italian restaurant “ Spiaggio”, was the worst service, we were waiting 45 min to give an order, stuff were ignored our table, guests who came after us already had food, but stuff didn’t even think take an order, only after I ask about order they took it, starters arrived 30 min later, main dishes arrived - hour later, meat was cold and taste like rubber, when we asked to warm or bring hot food, waiter was very rud to us, 2 dishes they forgot to bring at all, I asked to talk to a manager, his name is Juan, he said sorry and asked not to complain, also baby was waiting for ketchup 20 min for his French fries, when ketchup arrived French fries was already cold and not eatable!!!! Highly NOT recommend go to this restaurant!!! Food disgusting and worst stuff in hotel!!!

Service in the Hotel this year is much worse than we were last time on December 2019
We booked from NY 3 rooms with king size beds, when we arrived in hotel we got 3 rooms with double beds, it was a big problem to switch for king size beds, then next day 2 of our rooms started to leak from ceiling, and again was very big problem to switch for normal rooms
When 3 days in a row technician came to a room and cannot fix leaking, he sad it was a problem with air conditioner condensate and we can’t turn on AC with 92 degrees outside !!!!! It was unbelievable !!!!! Only FD agent helped us to switch our rooms-Angel, very helpful and polite, he knows how to help guests and also FD agent Adonis always here to help
We know guest service assistant Franklin from our previous staying in this hotel, if we had any questions he always knows how to help and what to answer, we wish all stuff in this hotel were like these 3 agents!!!! Very big thanks for them!!!!

The staff is amazing, but unfortunately I can't give a higher rating. First I want to thank Luis, Jose, and Yolex for being so attentive and taking such good care of us.

If you have food allergies like me, be prepared with lots of meds. The buffet area has utensils shared for multiple dishes by guests and staff. I spent days on Benedryl from cross contamination from mushrooms. Unfortunately there is no way to avoid the Mushroom as there were dishes on the buffet at most of the stations. Also, I would advise staff at the a la carte of my allergy, even had travel companions who speak fluent Spanish advise staff, and since the menus do not give good descriptions, I got served a nice shrimp dish loaded with a heap of mushrooms for my birthday. They were quick to prepare me a steak, which I knew was safe from others that ordered it at the table.

Now the covid testing run around was for me the most frustrating. The service desk did not seem to know anything. We were not advised of what to do and had to ask at the desk. They gave us an appointment time and date, and then paperwork to fill out. The paperwork had a qr code to set up an appointment that asks for your appointment date and time and it does nothing, waste of time. If you have the test included you will need to have the concierge get a photo copy of your passport, then the front desk needs to sign it in front of the nurse/doctor down at the clinic. I hope this info will save you the ridiculous time it took us to get the test. We then had to run back before the clinic closed at 8 PM to get the test results. Never got the email.

We did not get room cleaned & had no towels and could not get anyone to answer the phone on our final night. Same night as covid wild goose chase.

We have stayed at Iberostar Bavaro, Punta Cana multiple times and just did not get the impression this is a 5 star resort and had a lot of trouble getting help when we needed it.

The resort was a bit dated and showed its age. The grounds were like a botanical garden though with peacocks and flamingos roaming freely. The ocean/beach was beautiful and we were lucky enough to get a recently renovated room.
There is definitely a language barrier and very few Americans at the resort or visiting this area. The staff is patient and with the help of a translator app and a bit of charades we got by perfectly.
There is cigarette smoking pretty much everywhere. Ash trays all over the beach and pool where you lounged. At night the lobby/ bar area and coffee shop turned into a smoking den. So if cigarette smoke bothers you, avoid this resort.
Also this is a family resort and even though there are signs discouraging it, there were ladies everyday sunbathing topless. To each their own, but something to consider if coming with younger kids.
Our concierge really made us uncomfortable trying to force us to attend a timeshare presentation. He made it personal in how we were negatively affecting him and his family by not attending. We had to speak to him to schedule our dinner reservations and as such he would schedule them one day at a time which made us have to stop by and see him again.

My favorite part of the trip was and always is the genuine LOVE we get from all the staff at this wonderful resort. This was our 16th trip to Hacienda and each time is better than the last. All safety protocol were in place and followed. Check in was quick and pleasant. Missy Foy is a gem going out of her way to make sure our trip was amazing. the food was great thanks to Julian and his staff. Our room was spotless every day, shout out to The grounds are beautifully maintained by the amazing grounds crew. The pools were sparkling clean and the beach is the best in D.R. Music dancing, laughter and fun the whole time there. Want to mention some of our wonderful FAMILY there, Rodolfo, Juan Claudio, Alvin, Angel, Chino, Madelyn, Novelis , Mamajuana. To Macelino and Nilsa, Morla and Ramona we love you all. If you go to D,R. and don't go to this place you cheated yourself!

Not sure where to start, but our recent stay was incredible. This is our third time down (first time was my wife and I, second was with another couple and this time with three other couples). The separation between this and all other places I have been (and I have been to a lot) is the service and entertainment staff. We have had the same manager and wait staff for three years and these guys made the entire stay amazing. If you go, ask for Dievy and Victor as they can be seen working hard in the Buffet every morning! They are like family to us … just incredible people with an eye on making the “experience” exceptional … not just the service.

The entertainment staff was amazing as well. Mamajuana (likely wasn’t his real name :) ) was always engaging with our group, partying, dancing, and working out. As typical Americans we loved the Rock show, and sang until our voices were gone. The white party was crazy and we danced until I thought I was going to have a heat stroke!

The only disappointment was the concierge we were given. She knew so little English that we had to type things out on her phone. Upon arrival we asked for two reservations and told them ANY time would work, but we were told finally by multiple lobby staff that they couldn’t get it. This was after we told them we weren’t interested in the time share tour (which is obviously their main concern). When we told Deivy that we had been trying and trying he made a note in his notepad and boom, we had a reservation!

I am still here but I wanted to say how much this place is amazing! It's my 8th time here and it is still my favourite!
I am a member for Iberostar since 2014. I went to many Iberostar and this one won my heart years ago and still is. The staff is like a family to me :)
I wanted to especially thank Manuel, the most dedicated barman I have ever seen. He is the VIP beach area barman, he is amazing and should be rewarded for his hard work.
In the lounge, you will never be deceived by the wonderful smiles that greets you! Maria, amazing and so nice. She will do everything to help you and make you happy! Chary, the newest addition to the team, and what a good addition she is! Always super fun to chat with, she will make you laugh and have a good time! Nady, the third concierge is also a super sweet lady, very loving and fives you all the attention you need. Everything you need is in this wonderful and amazing loving team who became like a family to me.
Other name of the people who makes you stay perfect? Efrain, barman in the members lounge. He will make you the best mimosas! Ricky is a super nice guy. Waiter and in the Star Cafe. Guillermo will make the best omelette and will get you the all the extras you need and will remember what you like :) Many more staff members should be named but I these are my very besf!

The first thing I thought “this hotel is very beautiful” at first glance you will notice it, its rooms are very beautiful and clean (which is important to us) its beach is fantastic, the drink is not of very good quality but the The guys from the pool bar are very friendly and funny, the activities of the animation group are a bit slow, we understand that perhaps it is due to the COVID situation, the food in all the restaurants is very warm, we recommend the steakhouse that surpassed all our expectations, thanks to Brianda, Wander and Jhuan. I once again emphasize the cleanliness of the hotel. in november we are back.

Our rooms at the Iberostar Hacienca Dominicus were cleaned pefectly every day thanks to the excellent work done by Margerita Mota. She didn't just make sure that the rooms were clean, she also left some lovely "towel animal decoration" with beautiful flowers 💝
