The church up on the hill is very impressive on the outside, yet rather simple on its interior. Walk through a tunnel near the parking lot and you arrive at a small chapel built into the rocks. Beneath it, water flows out of the rocks.

Well worth stopping off here on your way to the lakes. The Basilica itself is fairly 'bare' but worth visiting. Obviously popular for coach visitors.

Long tunnel leading to the Sanctuary of the precious carving of the Virgin of Covadonga and the grave of Pelagius of Asturias plus the Catholic is lovely as well in the mountains.

A very remote cathedral and chapel in the mountains. The chapel is beautifully situated in a cliff and you enter through a tunnel which is lit by candles. Must go for the mass which is very moving due to the atmosphere of a pulpit open...More
