From the parking up near lake Enol, we took trail PR2 and halfway added trail PR 5, back and forth to the refuge de Vegarredonda. PR5 is a steep climb up, PR 2 circles around the two lakes. The landscape is somewhat desolate. There is only low vegetation and some occasional trees. Cows abundant which also adds to the poor... More

We took the buses up and down (as the roads are closed to normal traffic in the summer months). The 40 minute journey winds up mountain roads and it is a pleasure to see the skills of the bus drivers although the roads aren't as scary as you might think. Only one blind corner made fellow passengers grip their seats... More

To visit the lakes, you need to take buses or organised tours in summer time, so we took an organized tour which was really good. The scenery is completely different from the stereotypical image of Spain, and this should be one of the best places to visit in the national park of Los Picos de Europa. We liked it.

The lakes at Covadonga are quite busy during the August holidays, but even so it is a nice day trip to make for a not-so-strenuous hike. First, you park your car in a lot and then a bus takes you up the winding roads to the two lakes above Covadonga. It is a surprisingly long ride, and there are few... More

There's a great park and ride service up to the Lakes (EUR 8.00 per person per day to get on and off as much as you like) which means that you can take your picnic up there without having to carry it too far. From the Lakes you can have the option of hundreds of walks from 3km upwards. We... More

Really nice views. We did a 7km walk with our children of 7 & 10. Good car service from Covadonga to the lakes.

I've never seen anything so picturesque. There are cows grazing as far as the eye can see on emerald grass surrounding a clear lake framed buy mountains. You get to walk around. You get to sit around. You get to take pictures. Wow.

On leaving the car park where the bus drops you, or on quitter days, where you have parked, take PR 2. Depending on your fitness this exceptional walk around both lakes will take you 90 minutes to 2 hours. It is total bliss, and one of the finest walks we have ever undertaken in Spain. The views all round atbeverybtwistvand... More

This was our first trip up into the mountains from Cangas de Onis. It was an awesome drive to get there, with roads you expect in a mountain range. With stops along the way the only thing you hear are the cow bells. They do roam free, so you do have to be careful. We were there in third week... More
