Be sure to arrive early - the light is fantastic, it's not too hot, you can hear the birds + frogs. Totally different flair than later (there are only a lot of people chattering) Wonderful experience, we were only 4 (!!) on the trail at 9h.... 2 guides are fixedly positioned for the safety of the tours. I went up by taxi (ideal - so you save some altitude meters from parking up) and then on foot back the 5km down to Costa Adeje !!

I was staying in Costa Adeje having booked an escape a few weeks before.I didn't hire a car. I didn't want to go on a sanitised, hand-holding trip up Tiede. This was a good alternative for me as a lover of the great outdoors and mountains. I booked online the night before ($13). I caught a public bus (€1 45c) each way (3 stops) and walked up the hill from Adeje to the start point. I was an hour early (8.30am) -no problem at all. I gave my name (e-ticket wasn't necessary), was given a helmet, a map, and details of the walk. Told to allow 3hrs. I walked it in 2hrs. Be very careful to ensure you bring a passport or other identity card with you - it's not only for people to prove residency for a discount, but for identity in case of an accident. Wear grippy footwear. Nice scenery, lots of frogs making music. Waterfall nice, not much water. High cliffs at points with risk if rockfall, hence the helmet and advice not to hang about at these points. Passed lots of people starting out when I was nearly back at the start. Definite go early. Weather was also good fir me but starting to get overcast when I finished the walk. If you don't mind walking on a well-marked path with some steps, and like a gorge walk, just do it. Thanks to the man (possibly Hans) who worked there and welcomed ebenwhen so early.

Although the paths and steps on the trail are really good, there are steep parts, and it's rocky in places. So, I recommend hiring the walking poles (€4) if, like me, your knees dont like descending as much as climbing! Helmets are provided in case of rock fall. It rained a little while we were there, and some of the black rocks became slippery underfoot. Walking shoes or trainers are essential - this is not the trail for Crocs! We started our walk at just after 11am (long wait for toilet meant we didn't start promptly at our booked start time of 10.45) and made it back by 1.40pm. I'd recommend starting earlier if you can because to make sure we were back before 2pm (when the trail closes) we had to keep up the pace and I would have liked to take it a little slower and take more pictures. Fascinating scenery. The info boards at each point could do with updating. There is a toilet at the start/end of the trail, but only one so there was a bit of a queue for that. Trail not too busy though because they restrict the numbers. A morning we'll spent.

They say you should never go back. I first came here 20 years ago, one morning, trying to escape the tedium of a holiday in some overpriced hotel in Costa Adeje. It seemed like a little bit of heaven. Sadly no longer. I’m not sure I had to pay on my first visit, I just wandered along the track, free as a bird. Now you pay 13€ for the privilege of wearing an unnecessary and ill fitting rock climbing helmet and being corralled by over officious attendants- we were prevented from eating an apple at one point. The problem is that it is just too busy- the scenery is nice but the over tourism is not. Much of the joy of walking in the mountains is the solitude, the sense of escaping the crowds, communing with nature (cliche I know). Germans are lovely people but it did feel that most of the population of Düsseldorf had decamped to this small corner of the Canary Islands. If you are going to come do so as early as possible. Better still buy a map, a compass and a guidebook and have a proper adventure elsewhere

Well-Organized: The daily visitor limit keeps the area serene and ensures it's not overcrowded. The trail is well-marked, making navigation easy. 3. Rich Biodiversity: Spotting unique plants, birds, and even butterflies adds an exciting layer to the hike. Cons: 1. Permit System: While the permit system preserves the environment, it requires advance planning, which might not suit spontaneous hikers. 2. Moderate Challenge: The trail is manageable for most, but the uneven paths and elevation changes could be challenging for beginners or those with mobility issues. 3. Waterfall Expectations: While beautiful, the waterfall at the end is relatively small, especially in dry months. Overall, it feels like an adventure into Tenerife’s hidden beauty—a mix of tranquility, nature, and mild physical challenge. If you're in Tenerife, this is a hike you shouldn't miss!

It took us (63 and 82) the longest for the hike, 4 hours 30 minutes! But we did it and we are of course proud. The path is beautiful, it is a little experience. The brief safety briefing was good. Helmet is mandatory, we have also borrowed sticks. After the hike, stop at the Otelo restaurant to enjoy their specially prepared chicken and the view of the Barranco. A perfect trip!!!

We chose to visit this place as the last stop of our holiday in tenerife and were amazed. The view was spectacular and we immersed ourselves in nature but if you are planning to go there you have to be aware that it is quite a challenging walk and is not recommended without minimal training. The route stretches for more than 6 kilometers with continuous ups and downs but in our opinion it is really worth it.

Very well organized trail (clear marking on the path, provided map with indicated stops, adequate security equipment). Limited number of visitors requires earlier booking. Recommended visit in mornings (less tourists and lower temperature enabling nicer climbing). Really worth effort to taste it!

Experience not to be missed, well worth getting up early and enjoying a interesting and breath taking walk, make sure to book online before hand. There is a large underground car park a 5 minute walk away from the entrance at the bottom of the hill. Signposted before you get there. It cost us around 2.50 Euros to park for around 4 hours

First part of the beautiful hike, majestic decor Second part a little less interesting but more in the shade so less difficult Cascade at the terminal without much interest It is better to book in advance on the site but it is possible to pay and book by arriving on site if there is room left... and if you are not many... 13 euros per adult as on the internet Attention, big parking problem, do not go to the entrance of the trail by car because narrow street and difficult to turn around, the covered parking a little lower before climbing in the street is very good and cheap ( 2.80 euros per 3 hours)
