This pretty church sits in a great position right at the top of the High Street. Although we didn't get inside, the building has lovely architecture.

Lovely stained glass
Sep 2019
Popped in to this church, which is not far from our B & B. Outside it looked a bit grim, but once in side, the stained glass windows were most impressive. There was also a very interesting time line display about the church. I should imagine a service here would be a delight.

Staying near by at Peckforton castle so revisited the town and church. Lovely grounds and church. We were the only people there but all distancing signs etc in place. Worth a visit

Recently visited here for a service. Service was beautiful. Church was larger then i thought. The stained glass looks amazing from inside.

Well worth a visit just for the stained glass windows. Lots of info plaques placed round for visitors. Also a few leaflets about church and its history...... Couple of minuses for visitors and not the fault of the church. Occasionally the local dimwit is on the bench outside and is best ignored. And do try and avoid the Pepper Street carpark as the pay machine is the most ridiculous and complicated machine we have ever come across. If the council do see this, please note that the basic ticket machine is perfectly adequate everywhere else in the UK

Ancestry relative has Heart! Buried in porch of St Alkmund's Church!
Jun 2019
Sir John Talbot died in France but his wish was to have his heart taken back to England buried at St Alkmund's Church. The history of my relative from the 13-14th Century was amazing and the church is wonderful with posters and photos and sarcophagus everywhere. Plan on tie and then eat at The Black Bear across the street.

In need of a little TLC
Jul 2019 • Friends
This is a lovely building in a lovely surroundings. It was a little in need of some general housekeeping with there being litter in the pews and in some parts needing a clean. So nearly Excellent , the building and the surounding and the history are all excellent but it is the little things which make it slightly disappointing.

An interesting old church

Interesting church with a very helpful attendant. Nice timeline story around the sides. Disabled access via a ramp at the main entrance.

Really lovely Church

I hadn’t heard of St Alkmund but apparently he was one of the sons of King Alhred of Northumbria and you can read his sad story on their website. The stained glass windows are gorgeous and worth calling in just to have a look at those, and you can see memorials to the Talbot family. There are concerts held in the Church and it would be lovely to have been able to attend those, but we live too far away.

Beautiful church. In lovely grounds. A must see if you're in the town. Amazing stained glass windows. Very contemplative, we sat outside in the afternoon sun.
