I'm not from Lucera, but I spent a whole year on his streets and I totally fell in love.

From the Roman to the medieval world, from the 600s to the Saracen towers, from the very good wine to the show that stretches at the foot of the Swabian-Angevin Fortress ... I want to convey all this in my visits.
It’s always good to get to grips with the history of a place and, while the remains of this Roman amphitheatre aren’t on a par with the obviously more well-known sites in Italy, it is worth walking to. It’s not an authentic reconstruction, but has been restored so that the site can be used as a venue - much better than leaving it a a pile of stones. It would have benefitted from a little more interpretation - perhaps in the form of a diagrammatic representation of what it would have looked like. The ticket office building was sympathetic and the trees I felt added to the atmosphere of this place.

We drove to Lucera on our tour of southern Italy. We love history and were looking forward to visiting this site. Unfortunately it was locked up; luckily we were also visiting the castle which was quite impressive, just for its size.

Another hidden gem in the town of Lucera. It's so well hidden and off the beaten track that you end up having the whole place to yourself and you can explore at leisure. This whole town radiates ancient history through multiple historical periods. I strongly recommend it!
