Firstly, a massive thank you to Valerie, Paul & Iain for some really great dives & delicious cakes! This was our 4th time diving with Paul & Valerie so we knew we would enjoy it. I'm not sure if it was because we were there later in the year than usual or because we did some new (to us) dive sites but we saw things that we've never seen there before. Every dive had something interesting to see & we never tired of swimming through the shoals of damsel fish & sardines. The dive centre is ideally placed in the Old Town harbour, close to Black Beach & Playa Chica, both of which provide plenty of interesting diving. The centre has changing facilities with hot showers & toilets. The equipment that we hired (wetsuits, BCD's, boots, fins) was all in good condition. We had 7mm wetsuits, which were ideal for diving in December. Towards the end of the holiday I started to feel a bit cold so Valerie found a neoprene vest for me to wear as an extra layer & that kept me comfortably warm. Valerie & Iain did an excellent job of finding interesting things to see - many of which we would never have spotted for ourselves. Amongst the highlights were a seahorse, torpedo ray, eagle rays & armoured cuttlefish. We also saw several very large octopuses out in the open. We keep coming back to dive with Paul & Valerie because they are safe divers - they are both highly qualified & experienced instructors & they take good care of their customers. They offer a very relaxed & friendly diving experience, which means we enjoy the whole day, not just the bit when we are in the water. And there is tea/coffee with cake during the surface interval. Whatever level of diver you are, I would definitely recommend diving at Island Watersports.

Having recently completed my PADI Open Water course in the Uk, I Googled dive centres in Lanzarote and was so impressed by the Island Watersports website that I contacted Marie and Iain to arrange a "3 dive" package. That's where my journey started. From start to finish, it was a fantastic holiday experience. Communication was excellent throughout and as a newbie I was made to feel so welcome and reassured. In the water, Iain was the perfect dive master/instructor. Happy to share his extensive experience, he was attentive, empathic and very knowledgeable. My only negative is that I can't take them with me on every dive holiday I now intend to take. Five stars plus.!

I have just completed my PADI open water course with Ian and Marie and I can't recommend them highly enough. I dropped in to the shop on a whim and Marie was chatty and relaxed, there was no hard sell. They were eaven able to accommodate me and a couple of friends on a try dive, so we could all dive together. Most of the dives were from a beach only a short walk from the dive center, otherwise we got in the water A 5 minute drive away. The underwater environment was incredible and there is so much more to see. And for plus size ladies, there are specific issues around boyancy and kit, I have had alot of trouble previously finding a wetsuit for open water swimming and snorkeling. I am a UK size 26 and Marie ensured I had a comfortable wetsuit, and Ian helped me achieve an effective weighting in the water so I could keep my position level. Genuinely lovely people who are passionate about making diving safe and fun.

Just when you think you’ve been to all of the nearby dive sites, Iain always manages to come up with something new. This time he took me to two dive sites here that I hadn’t visited on my eight previous trips to Lanzarote, namely The Tinosa Wrecks and The Grouper Run. The first one was a boat dive to a group of three interesting wrecks midway between Puerto Del Carmen and Puerto Calero. Iain used his local diving knowledge and experience to guide the group around all the wrecks, he seems to have a sixth sense of where to find all of the interesting stuff and this time it was Torpedo Rays that featured! As you might have guessed, The Grouper Run on a subsequent day not only featured lots of huge groupers - truly the gentle giants of the sea - but also lots of other good finds including an Amberjack. If Angel Sharks excite you, on one memorable dive (Harbour Wrecks) we counted no less than ten! On a subsequent night dive we had the rare opportunity of witnessing an Angel Shark feeding on a huge school of sardines. An awesome experience! A lot of dive centres don’t offer night dives, Island Watersports always readily agree to my requests for night dives. This is so typical of the customer-centred attitude of Iain and Marie at I.W., they always go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome and valued, and to give customers brilliant experiences. This attitude, coupled with the dive centre’s fabulous changing, wetroom, office, shop, training and workshop facilities, Iain’s tremendous diving expertise and Marie’s fantastic administrative and social skills make this dive centre one of the best I have ever encountered. I would say that it is ideal for absolute beginners or more experienced divers in equal measures.

Thank you for the fantastic review, great to hear you had a brilliant diving holiday with us. It is our aim to provide a varied dive program for all our divers whether it is in Puerto Del Carmen or the less travelled northern sites. We are very lucky here, Lanzarote has so many wonderful dive sites.

My dive buddy and I decided on an early dive drip (February) to test all our gear, dry suits and practice our skills before the 2020 UK dive session kicked off. A member of our club recommended Lanzarote and specifically Island Watersports in Puerto Del Carmen. Island Watersports is based on the Puerto Del Carmen harbour wall, under the flashing cardinal mark. It consists of: an office, tea area, seating/classroom area, dry changing rooms ideal for dry suits, two showers, three toilets, gear storage and gear washing room, compressor and workshop room, outside shaded seating area for filling in logbooks, a minibus to pick us up and take us to sites outside of Puerto Del Carmen, and even lockable lockers to store valuables while you are underwater. So everything you could need in a very organised, modern, secure, clean and tidy way. Divers are notoriously unorganised and forget kit and run late etc. However, Island Watersports has a secret weapon in the form of a Marie. With lots of smiles and laughter, Marie keeps everything running like a well-oiled machine – dive site or fish guide book or logbook dive stamps in your hand just before you need them, or even a free post-dive tea/coffee/soup to warm you up, and a cake. On the first day, we were picked up at our hotel in the centre minibus to transfer us, and all our heavy gear to the centre. On arriving at the centre, we were instantly given a warm welcome, a quick tour and a sit down in the shade with a beverage and cake to do the necessary paperwork and cert card review etc. A plan was quickly put together by the team of what we could do with your ten dives – covering two boat dives and eight shore dives that included the entire wall/wrecks and caves from the harbour wall to past Playa Chica, not to mention the ‘new’ wrecks and Puerto Blanco beach – Playa Flaminco area. We had two dive guides during the trip Martin and Iain both made us feel at ease, were very enthusiastic about diving and their dive sites, allowed us to take the dives at our pace and ensured we saw a lot on every dive – ten angel sharks on one dive for example! Iain even brought a camera on every dive to ensure we had pictures of us and the wildlife – uploaded for free onto Flicker. The team couldn’t do enough for us, and there were no hidden costs, they were knowledgeable, professional and great company. I would have no hesitation in highly recommending Island Watersports and Puerto Del Carmen Lanzarote for a dive trip – stop looking you have found the best centre & staff in Lanzarote.
