W. e arrived at 10.30 a.m.but Ian (who was looking after the windmill on that day - 17 December 2022) said it was fine for us to come in to the windmill and look around. He gave us some really good information about the history of the mill and then allowed us. to investigate the mill, which is (if you find such engineering at all interesting) absolutely fascinating. Ian was on hand to answer all our questions and give additional information. This is a working mill so expect to come away covered in flour dust! There is a lovely little museum on site and also a small gift/souvenir shop which is very reasonably priced indeed. You should be aware that there is not much parking (if any, really) on the actual windmill property but you can park in the lane so long as you are careful not to block it! This is a fascinating place that will fire up anyone's interest in windmills, engineering and England's industrial past. I thoroughly recommend. Oh, there is no entry fee so please buy stuff and contribute to the donation box (I did both and it was still an amazing bargain visit)

An amazing piece of engineering in equally amazing working order. Fantastic to be inside when the sails are turning and to watch everything moving and the stones actually grinding the corn - superb in every way. The Miller is knowledgeable, skilled and dedicated to the job and the mill. Well worth a trip even when there's no events on, just to marvel at the workings. The flours and oats are better than any factory produced stuff - they have taste! What's more it kept its supplies up when the supermarket shelves were empty. I have visited this mill many times over the years and it remains the best mill in the country. Long may it remain so.

I visited the windmill on a sunny day, and the location is beautiful. There are fields of crops all around and it’s isolated. The windmill wasn’t turning that day, but looking round was very interesting and you can go almost to the top. It’s like going back 100 years. There is a small shop on the floor level where you can buy flour made in the windmill, local eggs and also souvenirs such as bookmarks and postcards. I’ve been a couple of times and enjoyed the visits.

I’m writing this before this years heritage open day but we’ve been for several years and always enjoyed it. Seeing a working (and actually turning) windmill right at the top is worth repeating again. And the other things on the day it make a great afternoon with owls and horses and pizza and local beers. Looking forward to it again with all our grandchildren this time.

Off the beaten track but well worth a visit and an excellent photo opportunity. One of the last working mills in the country.

In a prior review I talked about Tuxford Windmill & Tea Room, I gave it a five stars, I still stick to that, buy now only for the tea rooms (cant comment on the windmill tour as being disabled not able to do it) as for the flour, personally I couldn't recommended it if using a bread making machine, I tried various types of flour but all except one failed miserably.

Much closer to whare I live. You won't find any fancy shop or Tearoom, just an extremely dedicated Miller. The shop is based in the bottom floor of this working windmill. You won't find staggering amount of product available to buy, just the basics White, Wholemeal and Spelt flours and porridge oats (the best porridge I have ever had) so far I have made plane white and a seeded wholemeal loaf with perfect success. The mill is run by volunteers who are doing a fantastic job, the Miller I talked to gave me a brief history of the mill and how the flour was produced, it was an absolute pleasure listening to him. The flour we bought came from a freshly milled batch (cant get fesser than that) he also very kindly carried the bags of flour to the car for us. I have finally found my supplier).

The only windmill in the UK that has never stopped working - built in 1813 and still going strong. There is no charge for entrance, the charity asks for donations which all goes to the upkeep of the windmill. Open every Saturday when flour, porridge and souvenirs can be purchased. The Mill is fully operational and visitors are welcome to climb the mill or can opt for a tour by the miller.

There is always a warm welcome here - it is run entirely by volunteers and all proceeds go directly to the charitable trust. Sells great flour and oats. Occasionally hosts events - the September weekend just gets better each year/
