About
We provide guided tours of the Christian heritage sites linked to the 'Mayflower' Pilgrims (the 'Pilgrim fathers'), early Baptists and John Wesley's Epworth in Lincs and Notts. We also offer themed visits such as 'America's Christian Heritage' including visits to Boston, medieval cathedrals such as Lincoln, and wonderful country churches according to your needs. Tours can be tailored from half a day to two days or even three. You can combine a range of interests on our tours - so you could do Mayflower churches in the morning, Wesley's Epworth in the afternoon and then Choral Evensong at Lincoln Cathedral. We are an official Mayflower 400 tour operator, with significant expertise able to handle family, church, holiday and student groups. Read more about the places we visit in our book by Adrian Gray, 'From Here We Changed the World.' We are the only church-based community group operating as part of Mayflower 400. We can also provide FREE advice on where to stay locally.

Our Pilgrims and Prophets tours were delightful visits to the birthplace of both the Separatist movement (read Mayflower) and the Methodist church. Our hosts Maggy and Chris are delightful individuals and are knowledgeable and extremely interesting, with a wealth of information about the places we were seeing and how they were a part of the Methodist and/or Pilgrim stories. We were impressed with all the places they were able to get us into-the various churches involved in both movements, the Epworth Rectory and even an invitation to Scrooby Manor, which was very special as it's still a private home and rarely open to the public. We were also treated to tea at the Grove Street Methodist Church in Retford. In addition, we saw a lot of the beautiful English countryside as we went from town to town, and our hosts pointed out any number of interesting things as we drove by them. I would absolutely, positively recommend these tours to everyone, but especially those interested in our Pilgrim forebears or the beginnings of Methodism. There are also tours tailored to those interested in Baptist or Quaker beginnings as well, as the tours are tailored to the particular interests of the guests. They can accommodate either a small group (we were only two) or a larger number of guests and are flexible in terms of transportation. For what we experienced, the cost was not that great and well worth every pound we spent.

Maggy and her husband where wonderful tour hosts for our visit to the area where my Mayflower ancestor was born, baptized and lived in Austerfield. We had a fantastic visit to St. Helena's Church where a churchwarden and Maggy gave many fascinating insights. Then we went to several surrounding villages (Tickhill, Blyth, Scrobby) where the various Bradford family lived. One of the best and most informative tours I have ever taken, well worth the money and time. Maggy is extremely knowledgeable and very willing to customize a tour.

Maggy and her husband were wonderful hosts. They took us on a delightful and informative tour to the churches and homes where my Mayflower ancestors, William Brewster and William Bradford, lived and worshipped. They gave us a lot of very interesting information about those places and about the towns and places along the way. It was a day we will never forget!

Fascinating and immensely informative one day tour today for five of us, starting at Worksop Priory and then various villages and churches in Babworth, Scrooby, Gainsborough, Austerfield, Sturton-le-Steeple/ Littleborough where the early Baptists and separatists lived before moving on to Holland and then onto America on the Mayflower in 1620. We learnt about William Brewster, William Bradford and John Robinson - saw where they lived and worshipped. Everyone who has any interest in early dissenters, Baptist history and the origins of toleration in the West should make the journey to North Nottinghamshire and do this tour. As we had a 2 hour drive up the A1 before the 9:30am start in Worksop, it was useful to call in at Morrisons for a quick breakfast and petrol, just around the corner from the Priory. Excellent group lunch later at a countryside restaurant near Ranskill. It was helpful reading Adrian Gray's book 'From here we changed the world' in advance from Amazon which described all the places we visited. I also benefited from reading 'Battle for the church' which covers the period, by David Gay. Thank you Maggy for all your work in fixing up access to the inside of all the church buildings and halls and your friendly, relaxed and informative style. I am checking your site to see what else I can go on.

Adrian Gray was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the history of dissenters in central England. He was laid back, understanding, and accommodating. He was willing to answer all questions. The tour was reasonably priced.

Pilgrims & Prophets ministry enhanced my own History ministry as director of the BHRS of America.

Thanks Pilgrims & Prophets

Maggy was excellent to work with in leading up to the day of our tour (we took the train from York down to Retford where she and her husband met us at the station) and customized our tour to include a few villages around the area where my husband's family lived in addition to my Mayflower ancestors, so that make it extra special. Maggy is very well versed in the Mayflower history and the area as well and was fascinating to listen to her share the history as we went from place to place with her and her husband. I highly recommend this tour!

Had an excellent day, it was informative, well organized and it was a good jolly bunch. The lunch at Bolsover Church was brilliant thank you to the ladies who looked after us and fed us well.

I am looking forward to the next trip in July

Enjoyed a day tour exploring some of the treasures in Bassetlaw and nearby. The tour was well organised with due consideration to comfort and safety.

We visited three historical sites: the Church of St Mary and All Saints, Chesterfield; Bolsover Parish Church of St Mary and St Lawrence; and the Church of Norton Cuckney St Mary. At each place, the local guides were informative and entertaining.

Our highlights were climbing 150 steps to get close-up and personal with the leaning, twisted spire at Chesterfield; the bespoke handout about the timeline links between Bolsover and Bassetlaw created by a guide at Bolsover; and learning about the Battle of Hatfield in 633 AD and the burial pits at Cuckney.

A day full of learning and hope that these precious treasures will be preserved.
