I have travelled around various countries and until now I had not encountered a single tourist attraction that would only provide information in the local language. You can only see the inside of the castle with a guided group tour and only in French. All the information boards, notes etc ONLY in French. Clearly it is too difficult to use google translate. There were many other foreign tourists wandering around with confusion in their faces.
Perhaps we're back to the medieval times and thinking that we're the centre of the world. If you open an attraction for the public, please make some effort to actually be welcoming to the wider public and not just yourselves.

Although the tour was in French we were provided with a booklet to read. The guide however spoke very good English and was very attentive, asking if we had any questions. Lovely views and fantastic house. My 16 year old daughter picked this especially as primary source material for her A level art class and was very satisfied.

Parked in parking 1 close to the entrance, no issues with parking. Walked straight up to the pay kiosk €3 per adult for the grounds, we were not really interested in the inside.
Grounds are nice and views spectacular, didnt seem that busy considering mid August and the weekend of the lake festival. Total length of stay was about 30 mins

Worth a visit if your in the area.

Beautiful castle and views. We went planning to picnic because a friend had told me she had brought picnic last month and had even asked if picnics were allowed and was told yes. Upon setting up our picnic, we were told it was not allowed. There are no signs indicating that and very few food options offered for sale. There were crepes at a crepe stand. The website shows nothing about food or the fact that picnic is not allowed.

If you haven't visited many old French chateaus (castles) this one might be interesting. We took a guided tour that was only offered in French on the day we were there. I was given a book in English to read in the various rooms while the French guide talked. I was always done reading well before he was done speaking. :-) Still, an interesting building. The view of the chateau from a distance is just about as neat as seeing it from the inside, but the view of Lake Annecy from the terrace was a good one.

This is worth the stop. Built in the 12th century, according to the guide. Believed to be what the story “sleeping beauty “ is based upon. Well-kept with many fascinating relics. A library with 12,000 books. Bedrooms beautifully preserved.

Reading all the reviews of the castle, I notice that some points keep coming back: the tours in costume and the language of the tours. Having been a (Dutch) guide in the castle for 4 years now, I will try to clear that up.
In the castle, there is a group of guides and a group of actors. During the week, there are (real) guides giving tours of about 50 minutes. During the weekends, a group of young actors take over the castle and to their own, shorter, tours in French. Sp depending on what you want, you should choose the weekend or the week.
During the summer holidays, there are normally three languages to choose from: French, English and sometimes Dutch.
Hopefully this was helpful!

We visit the area twice a year and I was really looking forward to visiting this Castle as It looks stunning from the distance. However, the tour was the weirdest experience I have ever had. You pay 9 euros to visit 5 rooms in the castle with students dressed in costume( they were all very creepy), I didn't mind the fact I was told to read my piece of paper on the five rooms in english as they did not speak English. But my husband is French and he complained that the French was terrible and he couldn't understand what they were trying to say in French, hence I had no idea what they were saying.... All and All I would say its beautiful from the outside and I didn't gain a lot for the visit of 5 rooms although the library was the nicest room not sure it warranted the cost, most boring weird tour we have been to I will not return. Constructive feedback: hire some enthusiastic tour guides not in costume, costumes are just plain weird, and half the price, its too much for a visit of 5 rooms.

Dear Guest Firstly, I would like to thank you for taking the time to place your comments on Tripadvisor and to say how sorry I am that you had a bad experience visiting the castle. Since then, we have worked on english tour, the content has been reworked to bring you all the information you want to know about the castle architecture and the family history. We have developed the visits in costumes to create an original experience. Please note that the visit will be open to new rooms from the season 2019.

We found the castle very disappointing. It has an interesting history and we had high expectations. However, in each room there is an 'actor' who is dressed up and gives you some of the history of the place (in French).

However, the actors turned out to be teenagers (rather giggly ones in one room) who recited their scripts at high speed as if they'd been told to get the groups of tourists to move on as quickly as possible. Consequently there was little time to look round and the atmosphere was very staged. Never again!

We came relatively late so our guide tour in English was actually private only for our family. The guide was very nice, and answered a lot of our questions. This made the tour very interesting for all of us, and much more interesting than any other castle tour we took (which is normally accompanied with ear-phones). The castle is quite unique in its preservation, and of course it is the castle which served as basis for Walt Disney's sleeping beauty – say no more! The view of the Annecy lake is also spectacular!
Overall, great experience and highly recommended
