The nature trail here was a lot of fun; also check out the playground halfway past the Aquarium.😀😀😀

We enjoyed the trail but had to turn back because of the mosquitoes. They were literally devouring us. I would definitely recommend the trail at another time because the natural beauty of this maritime forest is remarkable and educational. You should read the signs about the plants to avoid any contact with poison ivy. At spots the trail is rugged... More

Discovered this little trail near the aquarium. It was a nice little trail through the woods and marsh to the sound. My son wanted to go hiking, so it was nice to find this wooded trail so close to the beach.

We caught crabs and snails. We saw birds and enjoyed the quiet. It is free and relatively flat. We did not walk the entire trail but it is lovely.

This gives you a full view of all aspects of the ecology of the island. We saw several species of birds as well as some dolphins playing in the sound. You start off in the pine forest and end up out by the sound.

After a visit to the aquarium we decided to take our 2 1/2 year old on the trail. She loved walking and listening to the birds. The views at the end of the trail make the walk worth it. It's about 3/4 mile walk to the end and then you turn around and come back the same way. Total walk... More

The Theodore Roosevelt Natural Area provides a short hike along the marsh. The trail is located next to the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores. However unlike the aquarium, the trail is free so it offers a good and affordable spot for everyone. The hours are posted as the same for the aquarium, but you don't need to go through... More
