Inside this stunning piece of modern architecture is a very informative museum which is laid out in chronological order. It takes some time to wander round the museum, but we found the way it laid out the passage of time and what was happening in...More

Have driven across northern France many times and never managed to stop, so at last we took a day, stopped in Arras and went to visit the museum. I thought I was going to be disappointed but was definitely not. Not only was it free,...More

Situated on a former mining site, this museum gives you a strange twist of how to handle industrial heritage, but there is abundant left around in the city of Lens. The whole town breathes charcoal. So it is interesting to see a clean and formalistic complex...More

Well signposted from the edge of Lens, superb car parking and attractive gardens to walk through for 5 minutes up to the museum. The building is all glass - incredible. Inside it's ultra-modern and free (except for some special exhibitions). The whole experience is equal...More

This was the midpoint for a classic car rally so we really had no choice about stopping here. Unfortunately the cafe was not sufficiently staffed to cope with the influx of people but we all queued patiently for about 30 minutes and the food was...More

Call me naive, but from reading all the guidebooks I expected a glass pyramid. Nope. That said, it was a great art gallery and museum with audio guides in several languages for four euros. We biked there, following signs from Lens centre and ended up...More

Absolutely outstanding. You have 2 parts, when we went there was a painting exposition and a part with antiques from The Louvre. All is well explained and detailed. There is a lot of space and this is good as you can you around each antique...More

This is a wonderful museum made all the more remarkable by its position in a vast grim landscape where slag heaps dominate the horizon. I will never hforget some of the exhibits I saw in the gallery demonstrating objets d'art throughout history. A great overview...More

mmmm .... what to say about a shiny museum surrounded by coal-terrils ... Amidst a genuine urban fabric of workman-houses ... Sanaa did a fine job ... the "gallery of time" is a marvelous experience .. did a few times now ... feels fresh every...More

This a very good museum to cover in half a day. The main area is free but for a small charge there are 2 further galleries so depending what is on and how interested you are it can cost you 10 euros. This was a...More

It's still free, until the end of 2017 at least. Delightful; there's just enough on display to let you look closely at every exhibit. Arranged in a timeline from ancient Rome, Egypt, Greece etc to about 100 years ago.

If you drive down Rue Paul Bert westwards past the Musee there is a parking area on the left hand side of the road. There is a huge parking area around the Stade Bollaert-Delelis but this entails a longer walk. There are... More
