We parked in Osmotherley for free on the busy main street and walked up to Cod Beck, after a tasty lunch at The Queen Catherine Pub. It was a short walk to the reservoir, maybe around 15 minutes at a slow pace along the road. There are small carparks closer to the reservoir, but we knew spaces are at a premium and we were happy to walk. We advise to visit Osmotherley as early in the morning as possible! and to avoid peak tourist days if possible, as can be very very busy - even when we visited on a friday outside of school holidays.

The reservoir itself is really lovely and very popular with large families with lots of children and dogs! There is a very good path all the way around, except at the top end where it is more of a trail for a couple of minutes and there is a small bridge. Otherwise, prams and even wheelchairs would easily be able to be pushed along the rest of the route.

We enjoyed our walk around the reservoir so much we are returning again this week for a longer walk past the chapel and a larger loop around the reservoir.

We would highly recommend as the perfect after dinner stroll when eating out in Osmotherley, it took us around 45 minutes to walk the circular route all around the reservoir. Or take the kids and dogs for swimming and exploring and make a day of it!

We hiked the Lyke Wake Walk across 2 days over the May bank holiday weekend, starting in Ravenscar and finishing in Osmotherley at Cod Beck Reservoir.

We walked along the Cleveland Way from Bloworth Crossing until near Osmotherley, when we left this trail to walk along the road for a few kilometres to finish near Cod Beck Reservoir at the stone marker there.

Afterwards we went for a quick stroll along by the reservoir as we were waiting for our lift. Even after 7pm on a monday evening the carpark was still busy and there were lots of other people out and about enjoying the sunshine and the beautiful views across the water. This is such a gorgeous place for a stroll, but we don't visit as often as I would like to, unfortunately due to its popularity! We prefer quieter routes. But if you want to walk somewhere beautiful on a sunny day for an hour or so along good, flat paths then this is the place for you! Very popular with families and dogs who like to picnic by the water and go swimming.

Note: the carparks are very small and often full, but do not park along the grass verges as you will be fined!

A walkway has been put in place around the reservoir which hasn’t spoiled it on bit. It’s not a long walk, around a mile, but can be extended by heading off up one of the paths leading away, although they can be muddy in places. It looks like more work is being done to improve the area as well. The scenery is very pretty, but can get busy at weekends, with the smallish car park soon full, which means the village gets clogged up.
Don’t park on verges or you may get a fine.
We heard a cuckoo & saw lots of wildlife, including a large family of geese with around 20 goslings.

A flurry of my pals were posting on social media about Cod Beck Reservoir over the Summer of 2020. I decided to see what the fuss was about. On the day I visited the weather was a little bit cold and alternating between sunny and dull. I found the reservoir to be just okay. Maybe the weather was letting it down? Maybe I've been to nicer masses of water? It was nice to get a bit of exercise though and take a few snaps. Free but limited parking.

headed up here from Swainby. Lovely short walk with the teenage family and dog. Parking limited and not much in way of facilities. Headed down to Osmotherly for pub lunch. Very disappointed as all bar the queen Catherine were closed and service at the Queen was woeful. Most beers were off and you had to wait 20 mins before you were even allowed to order

Usually a lovely walk but during Lockdown, some problems with the One Way System that was supposed to be in place. From the small car park, only one small notice (on one of the gates) made it clear that there was a one way system (and please keep a safe distance), but none on the other gate (that was supposed to be the exit, but lots of people were using as the entrance) and no notices on the way around. Only half of the visitors obeyed the OWS and lots didn't even bother to keep to 2m away from others. So, if you're nervous about the current situation, sadly, I can't recommend a visit here. We visited on a Friday but I know that it's always much busier on weekends, so can't see this being any easier then.

It looked good on my research but it was better in the flesh. A 15 walk from Osmotherly & not too far to walk around.
If wil a mobility scooter rider take your RADAR Key for the kissing gates & then you can do the circuit around the lake.
Great track around the lake & even though it had been wet no problem - sunny and spectacular enjoyed by all.

received a parking ticket yesterday during my (first ever) trip to Cod Beck reservoir in Osmotherley. On arriving at the venue I did see some parking restriction signs and a long line of cars parked on the verge on the reservoir side of the road. However, I proceeded to the (very small) car parks to find they were both full. I therefore parked on the reservoir side verge along with around 30 other cars.

There aren’t enough parking spaces in total at the reservoir
It is not enough for such a good beauty spot
Would they rather cars parked in Osmotherley? I can’t imagine residents would be happy.

The council are clearly making LOTS of money out of this and them telling you it narrows the road too much is total rubbish as the people parking in Osmotherley cause the access road to be far narrower than anyone parking at the reservoir.

Aside from this, the place is beautiful, great walking and good spots for picnics.

What a lovely relaxing place to take a walk. There is a small car park but I imagine it gets very busy during weekends or holidays, we parked in Osmotherley and walked up, taking around 29 mins. The loop walk around the reservoir takes about 40 mins on a very decent path, there are also benches dotted about to sit and take in the view and also the lovely peace and quiet!

Really enjoyed the walk along the streams and resevoir. Few benches along the walk. Luckily we managed to get a parking spot so no fines. We hope to go back in autumn to see the different colours, would definitely recommend!
