I absolutely loved Island Yoga and will definitely return. The place is perfect for winding down and relaxing. Starting the day with Tai Chi at sunrise then two daily yoga sessions of 2 hours each. The yoga classes were a little too large in my opinion but still good. Total beginners would not get the attention they need to learn the poses correctly due to the amount of people attending ... there was 30+ in most of my classes.

It’s worth investing in a bungalow with AC ... the nights can be really hot. Our bungalow was by the pool and was clean, modern with mosquito nets around the bed. They are also moving towards being plastic-free which gets my thumbs up 👍

The resort does not sell alcohol but there is a large fridge in the room so we stocked it up with purchases from the local market. There is also some nice little bars and restaurants within walking distance.

The food in the restaurant is fine. There are lots of places to go to outside of the resort if you get bored with the restaurant menu. Best way to see the island is to hire a moped

Well done Island Yoga - see you again soon 👏👏

I had an unforgettable time on the Yoga Island. The teacher (adcanced lessons) are really professionell and challenging and I learnd new positions and breath technices. The athmosphere is very familiar and after a week it feels like home. There are a lot of interesting workshops, the breakfast is really tasty, the dorm is really good (with ac and 4 fans, two bathsrooms) and the island is also very cute und calm. I will definetly come back again♡

I Have had the most wonderful experience at Island Yoga at Koh Yao Noi. Apart from the yoga klasses, Tai Chi in the morning and afternoon that made miracles for my body and soul I had the privilege to work privately with Dimitri Miteff. My curiosity about him and the extremly powerfull work he does was awakened after attending his yoga class and the sound healing class at Island Yoga. I have been on a journey within for some time now and it can from time to time be tricky to figure out where you are, what exactly you missing or needing at a certain point in your evolution. Dimtri felt imidiatelly I needed grounding and some healing work on certain energy levels. Working with him is extremely powerfull and the changes you will implement and the shift in energy is very very lasting. Can't recomend his private sessions enough! His yoga classes is also awsome :))))

I stayed at Island Yoga for a week. The location is gorgeous, by a nice beach (however not great for swimming due to tide), the Sabaidee cafe is cozy and I enjoyed reading there, the grounds are well kept with lush plants and flowers.

The yoga classes were well ran, I enjoyed them, improved and managed to relax during my stay there

I loved the workshops with Dimitri. Highly recommended!! I learned a lot and felt the energy.

The Thai food at the restaurant was nice however not extraordinary. You can find better and cheaper at the restaurants nearby. The food at Sabaidee cafe was tasty and a nice break from Thai food.

Overall i enjoyed my stay at Island Yoga but I was disappointed with the accommodations. The bungalow I shared with two other girls had no AC so the nights were really hit and none of us slept well. There were ants, bugs inside. The bathroom had no separate shower so the floor was constantly wet and dirty.

I also wished the classes were smaller, as were 30 most times. So no corrections took place and it was sometimes hard to see the teacher.

Thank you so much for visiting us and taking the time to leave a review. It's so nice to hear that you left Island Yoga feeling more relaxed and that your yoga practise had improved - that's what we aim for! We pride ourselves on keeping our yoga retreat affordable for travellers on all budgets, which is why we offer a variety of accommodation options. Our dorm rooms are our least expensive options and currently are fan only which is clearly listed on the booking platform. We will soon be upgrading our mixed dormitory to include AC and have plans next season to do the same for the female dorms. I have passed your feedback on to the management team to review and action, we are continually working to improve the retreat offering for our guests. Sending you warm wishes from all the team and hope to see you again soon :)

This place is very special! The atmosphere at this place is very nice and the staff is unusual welcomming. Altso the other guest are very nice and contribute in a perfect way to the pleasent atmosphere at this place. We came as yoga beginners and felt in love with the yoga practise immediately. We stayed one week at this place and afterwards we were moving on to a more luxery resort at the same Island. But after 3 days at the luxery resort we missed the yoga practise and the nice atmosphere at Island Yoga so much, that we changed our plans and moved back to Island Yoga to spend the last couple of days at our vacasion. We didn't regret our decision at all! Thank you so much to David, Betty, Dimitri and Antonella for making our yoga experience so special and to Ning, Sin and the rest of the staff for making the homely and cosy atmosphere. We will definately continue the yoga and meditation practice in our everyday life after we have discovered how much is affect the body and the mind in a possitive way.

Just spent some of the best couple of weeks of my life at Island yoga. From the moment we arrived we knew it was something special. The most welcoming place in Thailand we have been to.

Almost 4 hours of yoga everyday which has transformed my body in ways I never thought possible. Coming in as a personal trainer I felt like I knew and understood my body as good as anyone could. But after the first week I could barely recognize the way I was moving. The consistency of meditation everyday at the same time definitely helped ingrain the pathways I've been trying to find for a long time.

The food is absolutely amazing with a buffet breakfast every morning and not to mention the family dinner nights on a Tuesday and Friday which you cannot miss (even if you are staying else where on the island) haha.

Overall it's super affordable and worth far more then the price paid! Including a lovely pool and plenty of workshops. The staff are so helpful with anything you need and the place is buzzing with innovation and plans for new amazing things on the horizon. I'm super excited to come back to relive the island yoga experience again.

Big thanks to Kerry, Antonella, David, Betty, Ning and Sim and all the staff for making our stay so incredible! x

The bungalows are nice enough (had cockroaches though), the food is very good, the island is pretty and most yoga classes I had were great. While me and my friends were there we had 4 different yoga teachers, 3 of them very very good. It´s just that the owner David is not a very good person or teacher. Calls himself a yogi who has reached the highest level of meditation but is veeery bigheaded, ignorant and pushy. Half of his class was him talking about his practice and why he is such a great yogi. More talking than yoga. His class was simply him doing his thing. He did not explain how to do asanas properly or what to pay attention to although there were many beginners in his class. As you can hurt yourself doing postures the wrong way, someone who calls himself a yoga teacher should pay attention to what people in his class do.
Other than being a bad yoga teacher he is also not a nice person at all. He organized a climbing trip that me and my friends wanted to join. The reason for our trip to Thailand was to get away from home for a bit as a good friend/boyfriend/brother of our group had just died in a climbing accident. Granted, it was rather last minute, but when I told him that I´d rather not go climbing because of what had happend (almost crying while telling him) instead of showing a bit of compassion or in a nice way trying to convince me to come along, he was pretty mean, called me a flaky person and was super pushy. I ended up coming along and had a pretty bad day as David was pushy all day long and an annoying know-it-all. I can not recommend the retreat for beginners as you can not chose your yoga teachers and you might end up with David. The price is a bit stiff aswell.

My friend and I stayed at Yoga Island for one week in August 2016. We were looking for a much needed quick break from work to rejuvenate with yoga and some peace and quiet. Unfortunately, we did not get peace and quiet because the owners decided to do renovations, without any prior warning and without offering any discount in compensation.

We did 12 yoga classes during that time and every single class was interrupted by building work – from loud hammering, electric drilling and sawing to toxic paint fumes. Outside of the yoga classes, the noise was relentless and it was impossible to relax in the restaurant, by the pool or at the beach. The resort was basically uninhabitable during daylight hours and we had to leave the resort simply to get away from the noise.

When we first raised our concern with the site manager, we were told to put a review on trip advisor. This seemed a little extreme and we thought we should give them the opportunity to address our feedback privately. We asked to speak to the manager but he was not available. In the end, the only solution offered was a free AUS$15 massage. We have privately written to the manager but, one month later, we’re still waiting for a response.

So here is the review they told us to put on tripadvisor.

If you want to enjoy a holiday and practice yoga in a peaceful and pleasant setting, don’t go to Island Yoga. You may end up paying to stay in a construction zone and they will not tell you otherwise.

Island Yoga is not cheap and does not have low season rates. The fact that Island Yoga allowed guests to book into the resort for a yoga retreat during an intense period of construction without warning guests and providing the opportunity to decline is deceitful and bordering on a scam.

Island Yoga should not have been open to guests during construction work or guests should be warned in advance that building work will be taking place and offered a discount. That way, guests have fair warning. If we had been warned, we would have chosen a different destination. The money we spent on flights, the retreat and everything else during that week was wasted as we left feeling more stressed than when we arrived.

Listening to hammering during shivasen, electric saws during breakfast, non stop drilling while trying to relax by the pool or the beach completely ruined our experience.

I have been to a few yoga holidays and this was badly done. I went for a 5 day holiday and left after 3 days. The owner has no training in teaching yoga and his breathing exercises put me into a panic attack but he was not interested to help or support me. He was not available to answer questions and made me feel like I was not a good candidate for yoga. The staff were not available and I found getting food, laundry, and a change of sheets a challenge. The room was basic and there were rats in my ceiling. I would recommend finding another place of yoga should you go to this island.

My 1 star is for Heather - who was a great teacher, enthusiastic and skilled. We didn't stay at the resort, we stayed next door (Seaview) which has a great beach, lovely Thai family and good bungalows for much cheaper - my top tip. The yoga resort is ugly, no beach and big stagnant pond in the front.
We had 3 days of yoga from David and Akiko. David I found very uninspiring, like he didn't really care less, lesson by rote. In a two hour lesson you can expect about 40 mins of actual yoga, the rest breathing, chi gong and random, boring, preachy talking from David - like it was his practice and you could join in if you wanted, and couldn't care less if you didn't.
Akiko was better, we had one really good lesson with her - but I think it was after a load of complaints - the lessons didn't flow at all, and a lot of time not on yoga - and I was there to learn and improve my yoga, and other than lessons with Heather I didn't feel this at all.
There was also 20 students in a space appropriate for 10 - not what you want on a retreat. It wasn't a retreat - it was more slap dash drop-in classes (again with exception of Heather) no corrections, no real help.
I LOVE the island, it is a little slice of old Thai paradise - and I'll be back regularly, but not for the yoga - which is a massive shame as will be in Phuket regularly and would be perfect for a getaway, but unless David actually starts to care what his customers want and teaches yoga - as advertised - I won't be back.
