This garden is absolutely worth the visit.
Several tours. We did the garden with modern statues and the 'mother earth'-exposition. Nice walking, nice garden, nice garden-architecture.
covid: you need to walk in one direction. Gel cleaning hands available.

i Took the train towards blois to visit chateau de chambord and decided to get off at chateau de chaumont. The gardens were very beautiful. It was a beautiful sunny July 2019 morning. The castle was hosting the intl garden festival.

The Gardens at the Chateau de Chaumont are beautiful and well maintained. Walking to the gardens and around them in summertime could be extenuant, wear light clothes and bring lots of water.

We have visited the International Garden Festival several times and have had good experiences but this time we were thoroughly disappointed. The theme was paradise but I thought all of the gardens were similar , mostly green and lacking flowers and colour. It became a bit of a trudge round for me.

I had wanted to go to Chaumont sur Loire for years, and finally I arrived, on a blustery 1rst of October. Already the walk up to the chateau was impressive, bordered by enormous dahlias with hanging heads in the cool air. The Loire was fairly sluggish and soothing on it`s way to the Atlantic.
And arriving on top with an array of flowerbeds, all in blues and whites, the wild clouds over the beautiful chateau itself, the enormous cedars and other trees took my breath away. I started exploring, first the artworks in the farmyard buildings, with fantastic installations by great artists like Stephane Thidet, Henrique Oliveira, El Anatsui, Agnes Varda, Ma Desheng ...
The threatening clouds decided to erupt with a thunderstrom and heavy rain, so I ran into the chateau and spent the time of the storm touring the intricate building, with Maire de Medicis`dark and sinister bedchamber among other things. Here and there were installations by artists like Chritian Renonciat and Sarkis, and a whole great exhibition of the paintings by Nobel Price winner Gao Xingjian - wonderful expressive works in chinese ink.
The rain stopped and I ventured outside again, to see more wonderful installations in the old stables. An enormous golden sphere, and 5 000 flowers in quartz on stalks in the old manege. Among other lovely works.
In the historic park I wandered along taking in a series of very varied and interesting works of art. Most impressive the work by Christian Lapie, tall figures contemplating the present, and perhaps the future. Eva Jospins "grotto" let me feel the earth`s magnetism, and all the other great works were highly inspiring. This was all really enough for my first day of visit. My head was full to overflowing, and the body was in need of rest and recuperation....
Coming back the next day I knew already where to start and continue. Since I had concentrated mostly on the art, I now started exploring the gardens. Very exciting, not all up to expectations, but the variety is stunning. The theme of Paradise was worked in so many different and imaginative ways.
Lunch was pasta and fruit in the restaurant, before setting out for the Pres du Guadeloup for a mixture of more gardens and more artworks. Here are located the permanent gardens, varieties of English, Japanese. Corean, African designs etc. All very beautiful and different! Great artworks by Fujiko Nakaya, Nils-Udo, Chris Drury etc, spaced out along the path that circles the park.
Finally the chateau kitchens with works by Sheila Hicks, Jannis Kounellis and others.
The 2-day ticket for 30.- euros was absolutely worth it for me. This marvellous display of wonders from two of my main interests, art and gardens, gave me an enormous lift - so much beauty and life at once!
I have to come back next year...

The Chaumont festival hosts several show gardens, some beautiful, some less. Due to terrain restrictions not all gardens are wheelchair accessible.

We have visited several Loire Château and think this easily offers the best value for money; at 18€ for the chateau; it’s out buildings with art installation; extensive grounds; and the amazing Gardens Festival. The all you can eat Mediterranean Restaurant for 18€ was also superb. Highly recommended.

We visited for over 6 hours but the hot sun got too much for us; so we left about 5:30 without seeing it all.

Chateau du Chaumont is one of the some castles, which are inclided in the World Heritage List of UNESCO, in Loire Region, in the center of France. It is a wonderful castle, in fact, it is the typical castle you want to see in this region. Here you can enter in the building and visit it, also it is possible to walk in the gardens, from where you can see the best views of this tiny castle. Very recommendable for adults and children. In fact, my daughter was playing a lot in the gardens and she was very happy here. We also could visit the inner part. Top!

The children took us to the evening and explained to us these gardens are magnificent.
And the big disillusionment.
On all the gardens it was to our taste.
All disappointed by this spectacle.
Except by the frogs present in large quantities
I ask myself a question: tourist trap or not?
In short, disappointed by the price quality

4th visit to the Chaumont gardens and disappointment this year... Usually, we go from surprise to surprise with original and surprising works among beautiful plants but, this year, everything is rather dull and no surprises.
The theme certainly....really a shame!!
