It's well organised and easy to get on and off. It stopped now and then - presumably for helping some people to get on. The views all round are impressive and it takes you way up the mountain where there's a cafe and shop. Well worth a trip. On the way back down it was quite windy and so we were rocking around quite a bit. I don't know how windy it needs to get before they can't run it but it must have been near to that. Enjoyable though.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 4, 2023
- Colleen T14 contributionsCable car to Etnafantastic trip up Etna on a windy, cold, but clear day. Perfect ride int he cable car. We were able to go past the queue as we had pre bought the tickets. I was not expecting the cable car to have lasted so long, but this was a good thing.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 22, 2024
- Annie B43 contributionsGreat Tour and wonderful staffWe took the trip from Catania and had a wonderful time. Communication with Angelo via WhatsApp prior to arriving in Sicily was great and he was there when we took the tour. Yes it costs more than some other tours but we had in our group, people who couldn’t walk far so we needed transport all the way to the top so what Funivia provided for us was perfect. Price includes bus, cable car and off road vehicle that takes you most of the way, then a twenty walk at the end. Our guide was formative although his English was limited. Fun, friendly company and a special thank you to Angelo for all your hard work. Would highly recommend.Visited May 2024Traveled with friendsWritten June 2, 2024

We (myself and 4 colleagues) just visited Mount Etna and even tho we were not prepared at all and the last ones arrived with cable car and 4x4 the experience was amazing.
1. We drove to Refugio Sapienza and park there (we gave 1 euro as donation for the parking). We arrived around 2pm - relatively late
2. At the Refugio, we purchased tickets for the cable car and the (4X4) bus directly at the cable car station. The cable car was €30 each (return journey); The cable car leaves you at 2,500m and then you can either walk or take this bus to the top (amazing view on both ways). The last cable car down is at 16:00
3. The 4x4 buses (something between bulldozer and snowplow) run continuously up/down from the upper cable station to the summit 2,920m (you are not allowed to go closer) with an Alpinist / guide. The 4x4 costs €40 (return journey) and, €9 for the guide (obligatory). on top you walk approximately 300-500m to a crater for amazing view.
4. At the upper cable car station it's possible to rent a warm jacket and hiking shoes. We didn't have time to rent as we were the last who reached and were running but i would recommend to be prepared for low temperatures.
5. The cost is quite high however i think it's worth the experience; you can also try to hike this so you will not need to pay anything; we payed the full amount (79 Euro) at the bottom Cable Car station by credit card.

We went up on a sunny November Sunday and had a great time! Since our visit was outside peak tourist season, the roads on our drive up were pleasantly empty and there was free parking between the funicular base station and Crateri Silvestri. There was also no queue at the funicular ticket office and after arriving at the top station there was a bus available in just 15min.
The bus ride and guided tours at Belvedere viewpoint and Cratere del Laghetto took 90 minutes from start to return back to the funicular top station (2500m) and were 100% worth it. Guides at both stops explained the geology of Etna in both Italian and English and were happy to answer further questions. I would highly recommend this attraction!

Cable cars are very good and safevbut a bit high price..however you must absolutely avoid the cinema 7D
It's absolutely waste of money for 6 minutes of a stupid video when we were aspecting a real 7D eruption.
It's last 6 minutes and cost arround 1 euro per minute per person 😑

Hello GIUSEPPE, thanks for your feedback.
We are sorry that you did not like our Cinema 7D.
We read that you've enjoyed our cablecar, we would have expected a not so low rating.

Very little information on the website, and when we got there in late March, the cable car did not run, which was disappointing. Luckily there's a big all-terrain type bus that takes you up, unluckily, it costs just as much as the cable car, and the ride is not nearly as nice.
It's also very confusing when you return from the midpoint station, for some reason they make you go through the cable car entrance, even though you don't take that back down, and all the workers there gives extremely confusing instructions.

Hello teddy1014, thanks for your contribution.
For us, safety is always a priority and we can guarantee that replacing the cable car with the means of transport due to weather conditions complicates our day, we would gladly do without it.
Thnaks for all your suggestions, we'll do our best.
Greetings

My experience with Etna hiking was highly disappointing. First and foremost, the tickets were outrageously expensive, and there was no value for the money spent.
The biggest letdown was the complete absence of information from the guide. We expected insights into the volcano's geology, history, and significance, but instead, we were met with silence. It felt like a missed opportunity for an educational and enriching experience.
Furthermore, when bad weather interfered with our original plan, we were not informed of any backup options or Plan B. This lack of contingency planning showcased a lack of professionalism and consideration for the tourists' experience.
To add to the disappointment, there was no possibility of a refund for the subpar experience we received. It felt like a blatant money grab with no regard for customer satisfaction.
Finally, the short duration of our stay at the summit was baffling. We barely had 10 minutes to take in the surroundings and appreciate the natural beauty of Etna. It left us feeling rushed and unfulfilled.
Overall, Etna hiking was a disheartening and unsatisfactory experience, marred by the high cost, lack of information, inadequate planning, absence of refunds, and insufficient time at the summit. It's a tour I would strongly advise against.

This is the official cable car and coach journey up the volcano. It was incredibly expensive - £200 for 3 of us. Given the high cost, we felt the tour was disappointing. The guide was very experienced but really told us very little, just facts we could have read in the tour book. We only saw two inactive craters and that was it. Felt like a rip off. Would have been better to get to the top and walk around on your own.

I would give them less than 1 star for the poor services and lack of proper information. Too bad they don't have high standards for this wonderful place to visit. We've waited for 1 hour to take "the jeep", but thet had no details about the actual schedule. Around 5 employees were drinking beer and laughing at us. This comment refers strictly to the company, not the actual mountain.

The experience of walking on the volcano that breathed out puffs of smoke was amazing!
Remember to take VERY warm clothes. While in Catania it was super hot (35 degrees?), on Etna it was cloudy with rain and even hail!
In my opinion this trip was appropriate and 100% safe for children. Our 6-year-old was delighted collecting lava stones.

Terrible scamming concept forcing you buying things you actually don’t need without offering alternatives. Spoiling my vacation with the same shi t t y experience with AST bus. Everything is organized so you have to spend money or waste time. I’d you much better experience being picked up from a tour (in the end cheaper) or doing it my own way. After COVID the concept is scam the tourist the most. Disgusting and disappointing, done with Sicilia. Thanks for your terrible behavior and spoiling my trip! 🤮

Hi, We will only have time to take the cable car. Stay for half an hour or so. Is it worth it? what do you see from there if you don't take the ride or hike further up? I understand further would be better. Thank you.
