We did the quarry tour and chose the option for interior designers and architects. Umberto showed us the line of production from start to finish. From the tops of the mountains where the marble is excavated, to a stone yard that finishes slices and polishes, to an artisan workshop making custom pieces for private clients, the entire 2.5 hours was beautiful jaw dropping and very very very informative and interesting (for those that find stones and hand made finishes and materials and finishes interesting!)

I found CTTours on TripAdvisor after spending a lot of time trying to find the perfect tour to the Carrara Marble quarry. I needed a tour to pick us up at the cruise port in Livorno, and to get us to the quarry before 10 am. We then wanted to do the 4 x 4 tour of the quarry, along with the cave tour. Umberto, not only responded to my email right away, but he scheduled everything we wanted to see; the quarry, caves, a marble work shop, lunch at Lard Rock Cafe, and then a stop at Pisa on the way back to the cruise port later in the afternoon. Christan was our driver; very polite, professional, and knowledgeable about the quarry and sites along the way. The quarry was fascinating and exciting, especially in our 4 x4 with driver, Mr. Big! I would highly recommend this tour; kids would probably love it, too!

We traveled with 8 high school students and Umberto and Luca were our guides in Carrara. We participated in a marble carving class, had a delicious lunch at the Lard Rock Cafe and then went up into the marble "rooms" themselves for a history of the marble itself and how it is mined today. It is a tour we will not soon forget!
