Hidden Beach!
Aug 2020
We arrived here after renting an electric bike at the port (the island is the perfect size for e-bikes). After a walk along the cliffs, we headed towards the lighthouse and bam! a complete surprise! There's a tiny beach that separates la Pointe des Poulains from the rest of the island, in fact 2 beaches on either side of the small mass of land. The water is unlike elsewhere along the Atlantic; it's the clear blue of the Mediterranean! Most people don't seem to know of it's existence as other passers-by also seemed shocked at it's sudden appearance on the way to the lighthouse. It's perfect for a quick dip in the sea and sunbathing.

Stunning landscape and view, that makes you feel like if you reached the end of the world on a rainy and windy day.
Must visit.

more than a nice Island

In fact Belle île is a not to big island in front of Quiberon in Morbihan, south of Britanny, the best way to discover it is by bicycle or scooter (but you can have your own car as well), and " la pointe des poulains " is a so wild and beautiful coast… Have a good time in this place :-)

When you see the lighthouse you know you are close. Vistas of the sea abound with rocky cliffs and secluded beaches. It is located at the northern tip of the island.Sarah Bernhardt owned houses in the area where she summered with her artist colony. On a beautiful sunny day you can walk the edges of the cliffs or even make your way down to a secluded beach.

An out-of-this-world experience
Aug 2016 • Family
We very recently visited la Pointe des Poulains. What an amazing experience! We parked our rented at Semaphore parking (payable one) located 1,5km from the porte Gare Maritime where the boats take you to the island. Have in mind that a free "navette" regularly takes people from the parking area and leaves them just outside the Port. Just because this is not done every 5' but around 15', you should leave plenty of time ahead for parking, finding a navette, going to the port and bying or taking your tickets from the cashier's if you have them in e-form (like we did). For about 80 euros each way for two adults and a child (passing your car is really expensive) you get access to paradise. With 31 euros we booked three bikes from the morning until 6pm. We biked until Sauzon village which was a lovely place for a stop and from there to La Pointe and Sharah Bernard's house. Beware that the route is not an easy one. Combined with many ups and downs and the exceptional (for Bretagne) sun and heat, it is not meant for the not very fit type of people. However, it is doable (taking into consideration we are not bike types and we had a 9-year-old), especially if you combine the magnificent walks over the rocky promontories with a swim in the cold Atlantic ocean, which I tried. You can easily lose track of time there. The views are magnificent, the beach pristine, the small lighthouse so romantic to look at and the residence of the famous actress so enviably located.

Wild coast

A wonderful wild coast with rocky cliffs, lighthouse and a lot of flowers all around. It is a wonderful experience to sit there, watch the angry see waves, listen to them and meditate.

Marvellous and quita abandoned - during late fall
Nov 2015 • Friends
Being at "La Pointe des Poulains" feels like standing at the wold's end. While we visited the place during late fall the weather and the tide changed. High tide flooded the light house peninsula to an island cut from the mainland of Belle Ile. A truly romantic and marvellous experience.

One of the nicest spots in the island.
Especially in summer when it's hot and you have a blue sky...take some time and have a long stroll...
Take your Baby Bjorn as you won't get far with your stroller (if you have a baby of course).

The northernmost point on Belle Ile en Mer, Britanny

We visited this attraction as part of a coach trip from Le Palais. The rocky cliffs give one a panoramic view of the sea of some 180 degrees. Here we have a dog-shaped rock named " Rocher du Chien", a lighthouse and a museum dedicated to Sarah Bernhardt, in the old fort which she bought and converted to live in.
