The street on both sides of the river are awesomely beautiful, but very commercialized as would be expected of a high tourist area. Of the tourists, less than 1% were westerners. The vast majority wore masks.

We came here in the evening and the narrow street, was full with Chinese and foreign tourists, amazed at the sea of polychrome lights up and down the river. On both sides of the river there were multi-storied, old, Chinese style buildings with small bars, restaurants, gift shops, cafes, guest houses, all decorated with an amazing variety of lights, which all come alive at night, giving the place and extremely photogenic, beautiful and unique look.

Crossed the Tuojiang river and arrived this street. Few attraction can be found here therefore not so many tourists. Walking through the small alley, relaxing and enjoyable.
Visited on Dec 2018.

Great atmosphere & fun to stroll along the narrow streets and alleyways. With cafes & guesthouses all around to cater for travellers. All along the streets, you can see peddlers & stalls selling trinkets. The night view is spectacular.

Very narrow street zigzaging along the town wall and the river. Every building and every stair has a character, but like the rest of town, the street has become a tourist trap - you can see local food stands and occasional produce, but for the most part the street is now choke full of bars, restaurants and souvenir shops. Gets very crowded from early morning till late into the day. Definitely worth checking out

We have stayed at this area. The hotel is stylish with a very sweet host that serves us fresh fruits&tea all the time. I think it was called the happy hotel or something. The bus driver dropped us at the hotel after the long trip all the way from Zhangjiajie. We bought some tickets to a show from the driver. Well, the show was.. How should you say.. Featured and cute. Anyway that was worth it. Before the show we went to a (very) local restaurant ordered some garlic veges and mapo tofu. One of the friends still dreams about that dinner everyday ever since. That was a very sweet memory. I do like this little place. :-)

I stayed in a hotel situated along the Tuojiang during winter.
I enjoyed every moment when I viewed the
scene from the window.
I took a boat to sail through quite a distance down the downstream of the said river by paying about 100RMB in the morning. I suggest this is a must thing to do if you are not following a group tour. You will see the real fenghuang.

take a boat on the Tuo river is really a good trip, you can enjoy the stiled wood builldings(which is a special building of Tujia and Miao people) along the river side, some people singing moutain songs, some Miao people washing closes in the river, everything become peaceful. in the evening, you can spend your time to enjoy the night scenery of this old town, you can dancing with her,as well as just sit in the bar and have some drink.
