Marvelous and spectacular stone, three-arch, covered bridge. Was extra crowded at night when the area is lit up in beautiful colours.

I was told it's 300 years old. I enjoyed quite much. You should come here from May to October because the weather would be very good.

Yes, the bridge is crowded and full of small shops and stalls selling all kind of things, but it is also a nice and old bridge, which at night time is perhaps the best place to admire the amazing sea of lights on both side of the river. Old, multi-storied buildings with small restaurants, bars, cafes, guest houses at the street level come alive at night, when thousands of lights of all colors are turned on, giving the place a unique and wonderful view, best admired from the old bridge...

Not much tourists during winter. I almost missed the entrance of this wonderful bridge.
To spend an evening sitting at the rattan chair tasting the Chinese tea is an enjoyable and unforgettable thing .
Day scene is normal as you could also view from other corners in the old city. Night scene is beautiful and this is the perfect site to view the night scene.

Okay so here's the trick for people really really seeking to avoid paying the admission fee. The whole old town area is surrounded by a wall with several ancient gates. These gates are manned most of the time with guards who check your ticket as you go in, but, not always. The guards don't show up to work until about 6 am. So, the trick here is get a hostel outside of the old town and enjoy an evening seeing the rest of the area, then wake up early the next day and go on in. There are some gorgeous shots to be had as the sun rises so it's not as if there's not other reasons to do it. The old town has a number of temples that require your ticket to be checked again, so you'll have to miss out on these, but otherwise, no one will know. When you're ready to leave, just head out a main gate.

this is not exactly a tourist spot but the entrance of the ancient town. you can start your sightseeing from here. the town is covered with allies which can lead you to everywhere. there are shops for traditional fenghuang snacks and handicrafts. besides a few officially acknowledged senic spots are in the town. there are also hotels in the town. if time allows, you can spend a whole day wandering around.
i've been to several ancient cities in China, but i think fenghuang is the best with its traditional flavour still saved (i saw people wearing baskets in their backs and woman washing clothes in the river with a wood stick). i'd suggest you to go in the slack season to avoid large bunches of people.

This is a lovely bridge but really just a shopping street inside. Some very nice shops, though they seem confused as to what country we are in and sell gelato as if to marry this bridge to Ponte Vecchio in Florence, Italy. At either entrance you will be pestered to buy things for tourists.

I would suggest to come during the day, then come again during the night. Both are beautiful to view at different time of the day. During the night the whole bridge light up.

With two compact and firm mason piers and three arcs the Phoenix Hong Bridge spans the Tuojiang River and connects Hongqiao Middle Rd with East Rd for pedestrians only. The bridge is covered with a two story wooden building resembling a market hall, where myriad street hawkers and small stalls fight for the attention of the pedestrians which are pushing and shoving through the narrow middle lane. Once inside (entrance fee!) we even could not walk to a window to catch a glimpse of the river as the floor entirely was covered with cheap souvenirs and other standard items which the vendors believe are attractive for tourists. The nice bridge heads with gabled fronts are accessible from the small lanes running along both river banks so that pedestrians can visit the bridge and continue strolling around in the ancient town without interfering with the chaotic auto traffic. In some ancient wooden houses at the end of Huilongge Ln near the bridge are some very nice bars and coffee shops with good atmosphere. The window seats there come with exceptional view of the bridge, the river with boats and the riverfronts of ancient houses which appear to hang on the cliff while built on stilts. The Hong Bridge like the entire old town is illuminated at night. The best place to take photos of this very picturesque bridge is from near the Phoenix Tower.
