The greatest of Jamaican great houses, the Rose Hall Great House has a story with all the elements of an engaging novel. Built in 1770 by John Palmer and his wife, it eventually became the residence of their grandnephew, John Rose Palmer. In 1820...more

Ok, so I'm a sucker for ghosts, hauntings, and nefarious affairs. Our guide was excellent and patient as she gave the tour in English, the excursion guide translated to Spanish. More Spanish speaking than English, but I don't think the Estate guide spoke Spanish. Ambiance...More

As a paranormal researcher, this was a must see spot. I enjoyed the ghost tour, even though much of the stories are factually incorrect. If you startle easily this may not be for you.
There are a LOT of stairs. Be prepared.

We had arranged a tour for two ($50) from Montego Bay. Surprisingly no tour bus, but a late model Mercedes. The tour is quite detailed and lasts about an hour. There is some historic leeway taken, but it is generally accurate. The guide was knowledgeable...More
We recently done the night time tour and we loved it. Our guide was brilliant. Explained in detail the history of the house and it's occupants. The house was beautiful and we got to see upstairs and downstairs. We loved the scary elements of the...More
Our tour guide was really great! She was knowledgeable and fun and answered our questions with much interest. Beautiful property but sad to see the traps that were laid for runaway slaves. My heart hurt to hear of the historical brutality of people on the...More
I have to start this review by saying that it’s a really well-restored plantation house with a compelling legend, and the night tour would’ve been worth it for myself, my 12-year-old daughter who enjoys haunted houses with jump scares and my husband if we’d come...More

It would depend on the time of travel. Early morning in Montego can be challenging as far as travel. I know coming into Montego from the east in the morning is an exercise in extreme patience. Not sure how it is coming from the piers. But I would imagine it could be a bit heavy. You still may hit delays in the morning leaving Montego going west towards Rose Hall. There are only to roads leaving. The low and high road. They both back up and are stop and go.
Rose Hall Great House Tour - Worth the time? (3 Replies)
I'm going to be staying at the Ritz Carlton Rose Hall in December and was thingking of doing the Rose Hall great house tour. Has anyone done this and can you let me know if it was worth it? Thanks!

I did this in 2003 and it was definitely worth it. I didn't see any ghosts though. If you're in that area, it might be worth visiting Greenwood Great House as well.

Rose Hall and Chukka tours - amazing! (23 Replies)
Just came back from a wonderful week at Rose Hall resort. Our boys were with us - age 10, 12, 14. We toured the Rose Hall Great House and did the Canopy Tour and Sea Trek with Chukka Tours. We would highly recommend all three excursions! Ignore the negative reviews - go with a positive attitude and your week will be unforgettable! We will certainly return to Jamaica, and will probably return to Rose Hall in 2 years to see the upgrades.
