The shrine was being restored when I went, in September 2016, but its worth a visit. The gardens outside are so typical of Afghanistan, with roses and fruit-bearing trees giving shade to tired travellers.

Exquisite blue lozenges of tile set in brown unglazed brick on the minaret. The mausoleum is open during business hours so go during the day. They are happy to talk about Gohar Shad.
