Take a taxi or a bus to the Moongate trail entrance and then work your way up to the Rest areas all the way to the top. Good shoes water and food is needed. Takes about 3 hours + to reach the top off Penang Hill. That you can take the train(check if it’s open) or taxi(80R) down.

The hill top trails are still quite warm, even with the rain forest canopy. So we limited ourselves to a casual hike and it was very enjoyable. Trails are well marked and depending on Mother Nature, rain is a significant factor. Be prepared.

I have done this route dozens of times as it is good mountain trail training for ultra trail marathons. I usually start by running the 14 km from my home in Tanjung Bungah, up to Taman Rimba. (The gate keeper opens the gates right around 7:00 am, you can not get in earlier.)
