Pangot to Kunjkharak

Kunjkharak is a very old (British times) building approx 40 KM from Nainita. A tarred road is what you will drive on. The road passes through very nice jungles. We were lucky to see a Russel's Viper, Yellow throated Himalyan Marten on the roadside besides birds and jungle fowl. The rest house has two rooms with attached baths and a veranda. It can be booked from the office of the DFO in Nainital. You will need to carry your own provisions and the caretaker will rustle up a meal for you. Nature walks and exploring the surroundings will be your occupation.

Kunjkharak - Pangot - trekking through the clouds 2323 mtrs alt

Situated about 37 km from Nainital at elevation of 2323 m. FRH with two suites and two tentage sites are available with facilities of solar light, rain water harvesting system & clean toilets etc. An attractive place for eco-tourists provides an opportunity to experience living with nature, animal and bird watching, bear caves, trek route etc. inside dense forest of deodar and its associates. Boarding and guide facilities available through villagers on reasonable rates.
From here you get a magnificent 380 km broad view of the Himalayan range. A unique feature of this moist temperate forest is the Khoola (Jhoola) moss that carpets the floor below. One can get a glimpse of the Himalayas in one direction, the forests of the ‘Tarai’ region in the other, the terraced fields and the village houses in yet another direction.

Accessibility :Nainital is 335km (7-8 hours) journey from New Delhi by road and Kunjakharak is 2 hours drive respectively from Nainital. Many trains connect Nainital with New Delhi either through Kathgodam or Ramnagar.

Best time is April to June and September to March.

Temperature: Low 2C (winter); High 27C (Summer).
