Sonanadi Zone: Jim Corbett National Park
Feb 2021 • Family
Booked the Halduparao FRH of the sonanadi zone from the government website. Have been to Jim corbett many times from the Ramnagar side, but I must say everyone should try this zone for its calmness and serenity. Halduparao is approximately 10 kms inside the entrance gate (Vatanvasa), travelling to the FRH itself is an experience to cherish. I will recommend everyone to try this zone if they haven't already.

Booking two rooms for two family cost me around 6500/- for one night. Please remember to take your share of raw food which will be cooked inside.
Also, only BSNL connection works near the gate and at certain places/points inside the FRH, do keep that in mind.

Cons: There is no clarity of the travel mode from the gate to the FRH on the website. It is clearly mentioned that one must not book a gypsy safari if they he/she has booked a night stay. Keeping that in mind, when we reached the gate, we were told that the private car is not allowed to go to the FRH and you need to book a gypsy. The person incharge at the main gate Mr. Dhyani then called a private operator who charged us 5000/ rs for the gypsy and we had to leave our car at the main gate itself. Since there was no network, we couldn't call the government call center number mentioned on the website. All that is needed is a little transparency.

Peaceful and near nature
Oct 2018 • Family
In case you want to stay away and in peaceful surroundings than visit this place for peaceful jungle environment. There is river flowing in the mid of the jungle. No mobile connectivity. You have to book accommodation online. Best time to visit is Nov- Mar. Not very many tourists stay and visit this site.

Stay at Corbett Red Start Camp, Ramisera village with the plan to visit Kalagarh Tiger Reserve
Nov 2018
We booked a 2N/3D stay at Corbett Red Start Camp, Ramisera village with the plan to visit Kalagarh Tiger Reserve with entry from Vatanvasa gate.

Pros:
Very quiet and peaceful with very few jeeps in the reserve through this gate
The jeep ride in the reserve was quite enjoyable - the jeep had to cross the river thrice
We saw lots of birds, a crocodile, few sambar, many deer but no elephants or tiger/leopards.

The food was tasty and the staff were courteous.

Cons:
1. The entrance to the camp is very shabby and the steep uneven trail with rubble is not at all an easy descent! The first structure that one can see from the metalled road level is a rather unsightly quarter for the staff. The manager and his staff were cordial but did not have any arrangements to help with taking our luggage down that trail.

2. The cottages given the charges were very disappointing, especially the toilets.

3. As it was very cold but there is no running hot water - one has to get it in a make-shift pail (used paint bucket) from outside where there is a water tank with solar heater, we decided to cut short our stay form 2N/3D to 1N/2D and take instead an extra early morning safari to adjust the package charges by paying the difference of Rs. 200/- or so. But we were charged an extra Rs. 1500/- although we stayed for 1 night.

4. The charges for
the jeep arranged by the Camp Manager to pick us up from Kotdwar Railway Station
and also from the camp to Lansdowne were very high
compared to what we paid from Lansdowne to Kotdwar Station on our return trip.

Sonanadi wildlife sanctuary - vatanvasa gate (kalagarh tiger reserve)
Jan 2018 • Friends
Well this is although the most underdeveloped part of Corbett for tourist (many do not know about this gate)
And the river flowing through this part of the forest may be the reasons why this is one of the best area for sightings.
Best time to visit - november to march
To reach the vatanvasa gate of Kalagarh Tiger Reserve (sonanadi wildlife sanctuary)
Follow route :Kotdwar or Lansedowne -Dugadda - Sendhikhal - Dhondiyal- vatanvasa gate. One of the safari gypsy driver is
Mr. Santosh ji - Mob. 9458310252
( will assist you for jungle Safari at
Vatanvasa Gate - open gypsy).
elephant safari is also available
Mobile network : BSNL only at certain location.
Obviously early morning and evening is best time for sightings.
And yes there are leopards and tigers as well alongwith other wildanimals - elephants, cheetal, deer , barking deer , black face monkey , jackals ..
May be others also.
And a lot of birds.( Don't know the names of so many)
Due to the river flowing in this part of the jungle , there is a heavy chance of sighting.
We were lucky to get pug marks of a tiger family ..wish I was a bit early.
There is a forest rest house which is one of the oldest of Corbett built in British era.. we came To know later..have to take ur own food supply or raw material with u ..staff will cook it for u taking some charge.
Booking of forest rest house only online.(halduparao rest house )
Peaceful jungle environment.
Well I had an awesome peaceful experience with good sightings.
Hope to come back again and stay this time for a day or two.
I assure mental peace and calmness and the serene beauty and silence of jungle is guaranteed.

Excellent place for friends get together.
Jan 2018 • Friends
We 11 friends, reached the place on 12th.Jan. Very calm and beautiful jungle. Main habitat for elephants. There are two room blocks, one was constructed in the year 1892 and other was built in 2005, very neat and clean rooms, excellent garden area. We walked down to the river from the site which was only 150 meters. Really enjoyed a lot. Good dinning hall.

SPELLBIND TRIP TO MUNDIAPANI FRH, JIMCORBETT
Dec 2016
I am providing a brief description of my trip for the nature lovers
Reaching to vatanvasa gate in own vehicle is easy. Departed from delhi at 11 pm in my own santro. I simply followed the gps (shortest distance being from bijnore) left the dli haridwar road by taking rt turn just after cheetal grand.
Being second week of december, in dense fog, managed to reach kothdwar at 5 am (distance is hardly 220 km). Leaving kotdwar at 7:00 am headed towards dugadda (which is approx 20 kms) on lansdowne road. Road to dugadda is well maintained but terrain is bit hilly. At dugadda instead of moving towards lansdowne take right turn which is a well maintained road towards ramnagar but the path is completely hilly with many hair pin turns, i cant find any petrol pump/shops beyond this place. Driving on this hilly road (approx. 23 kms) is memorable and too beautiful. Following this road will lead to vatanvasa gate a lthough a turn (t point, don’t know exactly where) would lead one to ramnagar. One can follow the milestones of sendikhal and afterward rathuadhab.
Vatanvasa gate (lies off the road on right) is actually an entry point for halduparao (sonanadi wildlife sanctuary). Entering vatanvasa gate in own vehicle is not allowed. Although one can follow the road towards mundiapani / rathuadhab/lachour without intering the gate.
Mundiapani is 2kms from vatanvasa gate and hardly 100m left of the point at mundiapani post. Require to cross a shallow stream to reach mundiapani.
Mundiapani frh is located at a scenic location. Stay was comfortable, worm supply of water from solar heater was available. Mr. Amarchand (caretaker/cook) is a very gentle and helpful guy. He arranged a bone fire for us as well as helped us in negotiating for the safari in swls. If time and stamina permits one can move on his own vehicle to rathuadhab. We encountered a barking deer and few beautiful pheasants while driving slowly on this road.
We booked a safari from kripal singh (09756564796) who is a retired forest guard and a skilled driver/guide. In the lap of beautiful wild nature we encountered many creatures and fresh foot prints of tiger.
Best Of Luck
