It's a popular destination and so quite crowded. There was garbage all around. Sad that people don't care about their surroundings. Not worth the time. I feel that I should have spent the time trekking in the forest areas rather than visiting this place. The only positive was the view it gives of the lake and surrounding hills.

This is not the right time to visit this place as Forest department put dry leaves on fire on almost all of the hill so you will lot of smokes around and visibility reduced drastically. You will not be able to see cleary the near hill (mountain) as well. Not a recommended time to visit Nainital

This is not included in the tours the sightseeing guides give you, hence this is a secluded trail, where one can trek up 3 km for a good view of the naini lake on one side and the snow clad mountains on the other - on a good clear day though.
we went on a cloudy day, but had fun nevertheless, as we were looking for a calm getaway. the trek is not hard at all, as the way is marked out and very easy to climb. its a 3km walk.
there are spots midway that offer good views.. and pretty rhododendron trees lined the whole way, with their shiny red flowers making it an extremely pretty walk.

Naina peak is the highest peak of the town. It's 6 km from town and a ride on horses can take you to the Naina Peak. It provides a beautiful panoramic view of the snow peaks of Himalaya.

Beautiful place.. Loved every inch of it.. Absolute greenery, with all those corniferous trees on hilltops.. Hundreds of small waterfalls.. Totally loved the view and the place..

Naina peak is the highest peak of the town , at an altitude of 2611 mts. and at a distance of 6 Kms from the town .It commands an entrancing view of sparkling snow laden Himalayas from Bandar Punch in west to Api and Nari peaks of Nepal in the east , a full Himalayan range in one side and a birds eye view of the lake city of Nainital in its full grandeur on the other. With a pair of binoculars a good panorama of the tract surrounding Nainital is obtained . Pony or Horses can be hired to visit this peak either from Snow view or from Mallital.

amazing view from the top... u can trek ur way up there although it will take a long time... but its worth it as the time is all urs, if u reach there on horse back u will b hastened to go back as the horses can go for more trips... climbing all the way on foot is a mammoth task... and the horse ride can some time trick u by not taking u to the naini peak... they will come down from dorothy's seat... beware...!!!

We walked up to the peak from Snow View, then back down via Sukhatal. The route is fairly obvious, with mainly just one path to follow, and people will happily point the way if you are unsure. It is quite long and steep but not difficult if you are reasonably fit.
The views throughout the climb are breathtaking, with a whole length of the Himalayas visible to the side. From the top you can see to Nepal and a map will help you identify the different peaks. There is a ranger's hut on top, and he is very friendly, helping you see the peaks and with cheap and delicious chai available if you would like it. It was a very quiet peaceful walk, though the ranger told us apparently another British couple had been up already that morning.
If you carry on past the top in the direction he points out then you get to the top of a cliff with perfect views overlooking Nainital and the Himalayas in the distance on the left.
Make sure to go early as the mist stays low in the valleys until about mid morning then starts to rise and obscure the views.
