Waste of time, avoid
Apr 2019 • Family
ARIES observatory is at 9 km distance from mall road. There is a fix timing for the show at 2.30 PM. We reached the place in time and a lithargic, sleepy person switched on a 40 minute video in a small, dome type structure for us. The program was strictly average. On much request, they took us to the telescope but did not show any object. They were trying to avoid us all the time. No benefit of taking pain and sparing half day for the useless experience. Better to visit some good planeterium at Delhi or some other city.

If you have spare time
May 2019 • Family
If you have spare time , do visit this place. There is 15 minute movie show, good for children. Apart from that they will show telescope they are using for research. Visit hour is 11 to 5 o clock evening. They were showing planets using another telescope, but that was out of order. Do contact their office if you want to see planets.

May 18 visit

Takes 20 mins from Mall Road. Entry is free and we had visited in the afternoon. We were not allowed to go beyond the science centre where they show a 40 mins video on Solar system , constellations and galaxies. Irony is that visitors aren't allowed in the main office where they have the Telescope.

It has Asia largest telescope by which you can see stars in day time, wonderful place and scientific reason to promote and explore astronomy.

This point gives you a full view of Naini Lake and it looks like a mango in shape if you observe carefully. Amazing place to be at, great point for photography too!

Planetarium at highest point

It is a central government research center and it is said to have best telescopes located at an ideal place to view stars in the night. Unfortunately telescope was under repair. Prior permission is required to visit and it can be booked online through their website.

Title: A must visit for all age group!!
ID#: 469974207

We booked our visit in advance on aries site. The observatory opens Monday to Friday 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM & closed on Saturday & Sunday. I was told that the sky gazing telescopes are not there anymore, though I comment on this further as we visited in the day time. So any one going there, please confirm whether there are telescopes available for skygazing.

1 Hour presentation on astronomy (past and present) in a domb is stunning, educating, interesting for all age group.

A must visit for those coming to Nainital
