- T-SGlobetrottersPreston, United Kingdom4,367 contributionsWe based ourselves in Juayua for three nights and visited most of the main towns along Ruta de la Flores including Ataco, Apaneca, Nahuizalco, and Sonsonate. Our favourites were Apeneca and Nahuizalco, particularly the latter with its historical centre and well-maintained park. Juayua appears to be the centre where local people come to shop and because of this it is very authentic with few concessions to tourists – a good thing. Personally we found it the least attractive of all the towns we visited. It is also not well served with restaurants and other places seemed to have more options. Juayua does have the weekly food festival which transforms the town into a lively hub during the day at weekends with lots of live music.Visited January 2025Traveled as a coupleWritten February 12, 2025
- ClebicarBelo Horizonte, MG6,150 contributionsBeautiful central square of the city, in front of the church. Well cared for and very frequented by tourists. I went on Saturday and they were preparing fairs along the square. I didn't stay, but it should be a good party all day. I recommend meeting.Visited February 2025Traveled soloWritten February 13, 2025
- Kira A177 contributionsWe went for the food. All the food smelled so good. It was cooked to order and very affordable. After eating, we walked around to some of the shops. Everyone pretty much sold the same thing. I did get a coffee mug and a bad with some embroidery. I wish i had got the handmade baskets that several of the ladies and little girls were selling.Visited January 2025Traveled with familyWritten January 16, 2025

One of the stops along the flowers route tour is Juayua. The town has a cute little park around which there is a church and plenty of vendors selling food and souvenirs. Week ends are very lively with a fair like atmosphere.

Juayua is a lovely town, with a positive vibe, which emanates from this central square and which is alive with locals, talking, singing, eating, and generally enjoying themselves. The music and extra food stalls are here every weekend so plan your visit accordingly and you won’t be disappointed.

Bad vibrations, drugs being offered by sketchy characters, kids seemingly like they are trying to bother me. After dark the some of the weirdo people come out and bother you. Maybe because I was Didn’t feel safe. Daytime was ok, but nothing special. Go to the next village of Ataco instead, the vibe there is 100% better.

We stopped here to stretch our legs, grab a snack, and use the restroom and check out the vendors. Good times

Juayúa and the entire Ruta de las Flores are definitely worth a visit while in El Salvador. Nice Plaza with nice surroundings, invites for a relaxed stroll. If you are in front of the church, the buses to Ataco, Ahuachapan (ruta de las flores) and Sonsonate (connection to El Tunco) leave from the stop if you walk along the left side of the church. For the bus 238 to Santa Ana, if you look at the church, go 1 block right and then 1 block left. Roughly every two hours, but ask in advance.
Enjoy this beautiful country with lovely people, don‘t skip El Salvador!

The park is nice. There were always locals sitting around on the benches and playing in the fountain. As far as attractions go I would never insist someone go see the park but there is no reason to dislike it. The church on the one side of the park is really nice.

Lovely square - a great stop on the Ruta de las Flores. Go on a Sunday when the food market is underway for a great range of plates for $5.

Juayua is an awesome little pueblo a little off the beaten path in El Salvador. It is well worth the visit. It has a welcomng feeling to it. The weekends are the best with their gastronomico (big food fest). The food is reasonably priced and tastes fabulous. There is plenty on your plate, so no excuses to walk away hungry. Do not miss Reptilandia....it has a display of many various reptiles....only 75 cents to get in. Ride the train....well worth the 50 cents....if not to only sit for a while and see more of the pueblo. Plenty of typical Salvadoran crafts also. Beautiful adventure! I spent 3 days there and cannot wait to go back!

Nice place for a quick stop in the shade. Plenty of vendors around. Its a little gritty and touristy. Prefer Ataco for more things to see and do. In my opinion, Juayúa’s allure is its surrounding beautiful countryside with coffee farms and volcano hikes.
