This is the only natural fresh water lake on the island of Crete. It is not possible to walk all around the lake, even though some guide books say that you can. If you hire a pedalo you are likely to see terrapins and maybe...More

We hired a pedalo to explore the lake, and were so pleased to see the turtles and fish in the crystal clear waters. Pedalo hire was just 7:00 Euro's for a two seater for an hour. We enjoyed ourselves so much that after lunch we...More

Hi, is there a bus which I can take from Chania Town to Lake Kournas? If not, does anyone know how much a taxi would be? And anyone seen turtles anywhere else apart from this lake? Thanks!

Best bet is to get a bus from Chania to Georgopolis and then a cab from there, much cheaper. Not sure if the turtles are actually not tortoises, but well worth a visit anyway!
Can pedalos be hired in April? If so how much do they cost? Thanks
