Very pretty and nice to see the baby turtles swim up to the pedalo. Not a must see for me, we went via the little tourisr train from Kavros. Few shops and bars for lunch or drinks. There's a few free sunbeds, ground isn't suitable to lie on a towel. Pedalos 10e upwards

Absolutely amazing lake. So pretty and clean. Loads of water sport equipment to hire. We done paddle boarding. Turtles over the other side of the lake if you are lucky enough to see them.

We decided to walk clockwise from the main parking area. However after 1km the track was blocked with a building. We decided to then go counterclockwise and just as we got to what we thought would be the same building the track took us some 2km up into the hills on steadily worsening rock. All of this is clearly marked with red and white stripes. We eventually returned back the same way. Don't think you can do a circular walk even though both ends are marked same. At the top it is VERY difficult.

This was our second visit here, but not for a few years. The first time, we hired a pedalo and went looking for turtles without success. This time, we were fortunate to see a number of turtles, a tiny lizard, and even a small snake (about 15-18 inches in length) that had caught a small fish! Parking is free if you drive as far as possible to the lake. Sunbeds and umbrellas were free to use. I've never used the toilets, so I can't comment, but there are mixed comments about the toilets in other posts on here. A good way to spend a few hours.

Picture perfect scenery in between the mountains. The fresh water was beautifully clear and there swims a lot of fishes so it's also a great place to go snorkeling. We moved the scenery but the surrounding area is not that clean unfortunately... Tourists littering everywhere and another odd fact is that there are goose on the beach which also offer a special smell. But absolutely worth the visit if you love nature.

Small nice lake with wonderful blue water. We borrowed the water wheel and so we saw the turtles in the lake as well. It's nice to see the animals in their natural life environment. Nice place to go with children.

Beautiful lake, so clean water and we saw turtles! Worth a trip to! 😊! Perfect for a couple or family. There is a pedal boat to hire and go around the lake. I will defo recommend the trip!

Lovely clear water in this freshwater lake. €2 to park all day and lots of pedal boats, kayaks and SUP to rent. There are terrapins over on the far right hand side of the lake which you may be lucky enough to see (see photos!). There are a few restaurants around the lake and free sun loungers and umbrellas. The edge of the lake is quite rocky, so wet shoes are recommend. Definitely a good option for a day trip on Crete if you're not too far away.

A good half day tour, plenty of gift shops with good quality items for sale. A row of nice restaurants so you can have a nice meal and drink reasonably priced. The lake is large and shallow with clear water with the mountains towering above. The main tourist trap is the pedal boat hire at 10 euro for an hour it is a fair price and its pretty much all there is to do. The boats are a bit ropey but you will see the Turtles or are they Terrapins. The lake edge is muddy and rocky, the sunbeds are old. There was also lots of Geese and birds about. Well worth a visit.

Staying in Chania Old Town we decided to take the bus to Georgioupolis and then the Tourist road train Talos to Lake Kournas. The trip on the train was 5 euo return, and took around 15 minutes. The lake is most beautiful, with restaurants and bars, spectacular views and wonderful walking. There are boats and pedalos for hire. It was a wonderful change from the city, very serene and peaceful, although there were a few tourist, there was still plenty of space for relaxation with seats dotted around the lake. Great day for a picnic.
