The chapel was originally built in 1713 as a private family Church, it changed hands a number of times throughout the years.
At some stage it was abandoned and eventually fell to ruins. In 1996 it was renovated using mostly the original materials ensuring the authentic nature of the Church.
Every time we drove from our accommodation, in Barbati, into Corfu Town we would see the Church on the island in the Bay and earmarked it as a place to visit.
Thursday 2nd September, our final day of the holiday with the car and we paid a visit here. We took the turing by Coffee Me, coffee shop, in Kommeno and followed the road along the Bay to the Church.
As we walked out along the jetty to the Island, the entrance gate to the Island was bolted closed so we were disappointingly unable to visit the Church.
We did take the opportunity to enjoy the panoramic views of Kommeno Bay, across to Gouvia’s Marina and then along to the Old Town of Corfu and Vido Island.
Despite endless searches was unable to find any information about opening times.
The Church celebrates the Feast of Candlemas (Presentation of Jesus at the Temple) on the 2nd February.
It is also a very popular place to celebrate wedding in Corfu.

You can see the pretty little church from Gouvia beach and it’s only a 30 minute walk around the bay, although the first half is along the busy main road where there often is no pavement.
If you’re coming from the direction of Corfu town, turn right onto the Dasia/Iposis road then right again down Swans Str which ends at the church.
It is very small but the location is extremely picturesque. At the time of my visit there was an event about to take place so not possible to take photos inside - but still worth the visit.

Lovely little church still used for frequent services. We walked around from Gouvia not the most pleasant as have to walk along main road.
The views are stunning, very little around the area so take drinks.

With the sun out, this was a lovely place for a quick visit, with beautiful views. The church inside is nice, and you can light candles.

We stopped at this church as part of a guided island jeep tour. It is in a lovely location and the inside is small, but beautiful. I enjoyed the stop, but I would not encourage a special trip to see. It's a 10-15 min stop, see.

The little church looked great whilst swimming in the sea by Iliada beach hotel so we walked around the bay to look at it. An easy stroll with an ice cream on the way, it gave a lovely reverse view of the bay and sitting on the benches watching the fish was serene. A quick look inside the church which was pleasing before a slow walk back.

We could see this little church from Gouvia beach so one day we popped on the local bus and walked round to it. The church was locked so we couldn't go in but some lovely photo opportunities. There is a boat hire near it so rather than the bus we asked if they would take us back over the bay. They did for 10 euros ( 4 of us) and it was a bit 'James Bond' like , a fast speed boat whizzing across the bay.

Well after reading the reviews on this little gem me and my wife thought we would go so we parked the car and walked the full length of the road right the way down to the church. So we started to walk down the main road and got soaked by a burst pipe and the smell from the sea was sewerage we got onto the road that the church was on after passing a number of sunken boats disused jetty s dotted around just like most of the island when they have finish with something they dump it nice we are on the home straight looking at the beautiful church that is in my opinion stuck in the middle of a dump as we walked to the gates of the church there was empty bottles of wine and beer and a number of used condoms all over the road so that's why Mmm.

I knew that the church would be locked, but it is surrounded by a locked fence which prevents you from gettin even close to it. Such a shame as it sits in such a delightful spot.

Written August 25, 2015
if i remember correctly is it open sometimes on Sunday morning or during the national greek orthodox festivities. there is an old person who came and check around. but you can ask the priest at the church just across hotel Orpheus in Gouvia, he will know better.
