We took a taxi from JC on a holiday weekend. I think there's usually an entry fee (not sure how much) but on the traveling holiday weekend it was free.
There's a network of paths and (extraordinarily steep) staircases leading up to some very modern looking temples with some signs in English and Chinese with information about taoism. The views are good and the terrain is spectacular. You could probably manage to spend a whole day here if you wanted to do a lot of walking or if you just want the view there's a cable car from the car park to the top. There is a hotel and some stalls selling bottled drinks/ice creams but if you want to walk any distance you'll want some water.
There were plenty of taxis waiting to take people back to JC.
