Install Gandhiji's statue. Make it a good one. Now add about twenty coloured, swaying fountain like streams of light. Add music at other times. Put the whole thing on a rocky beachside absolutely chock a block with selfie takers. The locals seem to enjoy this cross between a disco and and an ashram, though.

This beautiful monument shows everyone’s beloved Mahatma Gandhi in one of his iconic poses. His head is protected from above and the central statue is surrounded by columns. This landmark is a place of meeting and gathering of both the locals and tourists.
This monument looks interesting in variety of lightings and it is good to visit it at various times of the day.

When I was here a few years ago, I saw kids climbing all over the statue, grabbing every part of his body to cling on. I thought, ugh, that is one way to get this statue destroyed. This time, he is now protected. They put barricades around and you can only stand in front (not inside) to have your photos taken. This is an iconic landmark for the national hero.

One of Pondicherry's most recognizable landmarks is the Mahatma Gandhi statue. It is a popular tourist destination and one of the main attractions of Rock Beach. The Mahatma Gandhi statue stands 4 feet tall and is surrounded by eight magnificent granite pillars brought from Gingee, a fort in Tamil Nadu about 70 kilometers from Puducherry. This is considered to be the third biggest statue of Mahatma Gandhi.

This is located at the most beautiful & most visited place by expats, at Pondicherry.
Use Gandhi's statue (or 'Le cafe') as a Landmark when searching for hotels.
In my opinion, something attractive, artistic or eventful could've been built here instead of this statue taking up much space than required.

You can't miss the state of Gandhi as it's along the main beach front, which is right along the heart of Pondicherry's main beachfront . The nearby area is Pondicherry's old French Quarter. Find a copy of the 'Heritage Trail' flyer for Pondicherry with its excellent map and key over the main heritage buildings and you will have a 5-star visit!

This same statue can be found in many Indian cities and on t- shirts. I wouldn’t go out of my way to see this but if you are walking along the promenade and happen to see it, then take a picture, as everyone else does!

Very impressive monument to Ghandi surrounded by pillars near the sea, the pillars representing a fitting thank you in appreciation to guide India to their successful Independence in 1947.

Beaches good but lot of garbage in town, traffic is chaotic, Very few traffic lights. Due to some understanding with France, remnants of French period are retained,But the town being divided even now into black and white is really strange.
Some nice patisseries and restaurants where limited but good french cuisine is served.

A great and big statue in the beach road to honor the Father of the nation; good for photographs; well lit at night. BUT for the uncouth populace which has no respect for the man or his statue; climbing all over and what not. Sorry for the great man.
