Had a fabulous day there, beautiful sand and very enjoyable but get there early to claim one of the very few shaded seats. If not, you'll be out in the scorching sun for the day. (we arrived 9:45 and got the last seat available)
The beach is an excellent place to take a swim, relax, enjoy. You can really spend good time here. The sand is not pinching and the beach is very neat and clean. There are life guards also at the beach for safety. You can take...More
Paradise Beach - Try To Get You To Pay To Swim (8 Replies)
3 of us got the "treat like sh1t" treatment at Paradise Beach couple of days ago. We ate first at a table under the trees so they got 600 baht out of us for that. Then we wanted a swim so walked down to a shaded area of the beach at the east end and were changing on some rocks when the "owner" came along and demanded that we pay 100 baht each for a sunbed...but we didn't want beds. He then starts going on about the beach being private and that they clean it every day and we had to pay. We...More

Thanks for the warning. We intend(ed) going to Paradise. Glad you didn't allow them to bully you. Shame we can't all do the same with the tuk tuk owners.

Goa or Gambia? (45 Replies)
Having spent a wonderful week at the Dona Sylvia Cavellosim last year we thought we would try the Sheraton in Gambia this year both AI. We didn't expect the holiday could better Goa. Surprise! Surprise! It did. Although it was slightly more expensive than the Dona Sylvia once you deduct the visa charges and cheaper malaria tablets[only £5 for Gambia] it was more or less the same. The Sheraton rooms, location and food was even better than the Dona Sylvia which we rated very highly anyway. ...More

Hi If you are an AI sort of person in Goa then I suppose The Gambia might be better. As a 'wander-around-eat-where-I-find-somewhere-nice' sort of traveller I find Goa orders of magnitude better than Kololi or the Senegambia strip... You didn't get hassle at the Sheraton because its security guards keep the beach clear of bumsters. Once you venture further afield then the hassle is persistent and prolonged. With every female person on the beach treated as if the only reason she has...More

Read up that Sea Smile's pretty decent. To the locals (Thai n non-Thai), I hv a few questions seeking ur advise. Thanks in advance. My intro: I'm a person looking for value, not necessary the lowest pricing. I don't mind being rugged n mixed with the local folks n do things they do. I don't dressed...More
