The Basilica of the Sacred Heart is an Eastern Gothic Revival Catholic religious building. Built in 1902, it was built as a basilica in 2011, shortly after its centenary. Inside, magnificent stained glass windows illustrate biblical scenes and the lives of saints, such as Saint Francis of Assisi and Joan of Arc. The façade presents the statues of the four evangelists, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. It is close to Pondicherry train station.

A beautiful church located in Pondicherry. It’s windows made of glass has a wonderful hue to it when the sun reflects through it in the church. This is more than 100 years old and is well maintained. A good place to visit if you have time.

Consecrated at the turn of the 20th century, this beautiful brown and white church is noted for its splendid Gothic architecture. The most beautiful part of the church is the stained glass windows which depict various saints and events from the life of Jesus Christ.

At the entrance to the church grounds is a small shop where you may purchase a candle (among other religious items). From outside facing the church, go to the right side of the church where you may light your candle and say a prayer.

We visited the church on New Year's Day when the church was overflowing with worshippers. The service, especially the singing, was really nice.

This church is within rickshaw distance of Beach Road and is the nicest church in Pondicherry. Definitely worth a visit!

Went in the evening just before the mass time. A well maintained Basilica. Enough Covid control measures like, providing the Hand sanitiser, Checking the temperature and maintaining the Social distance etc..,

Beautiful gothic architecture to admire, a place filled divine silence ... if this is not a place of worship then what is? The simple red and white building paint colour combination gives a grandeur look.

In total, it is a place to visit and spend time.

The church is located very near the railway station. It displays some stunning stained glass windows and the whole atmosphere inside is one of quiet contemplation. I went there one afternoon and stayed over an hour soaking in the peace. A must visit when in Pondicherry

I was walking by and I saw this place. It was open. So I veered to take a peek. The outside of the buidling was beautiful enough to catch your eyes. Inside is all the same. I did not want to bother the parishioners so I sat at the back quietly and took no pictures. It is a sacred, holy place and you can feel the ambiance and feel holy. They still have their Christmas ornaments hanging.

This is one of the most famous pilgrimage for Christians in India. Built in late 1800s, the Basilica is an example of Gothic architecture in India. It contains a rare stained glass panels which depicts events from the life of Jesus. The Basilica is not as big as some of the famous churches in Europe, however is quite big considering other Indian churches. The Basilica is situated in the heart of Pondicherry city and is a must visit site if you are touring the place.

The location of the cathedral, which is more than a century old, near the station, is a very popular holy place with easy parking.
It is an idyllic setting to celebrate Catholic weddings
The frame of this basilica in red brings out a good relief.
A sports competition shoot was filmed in this place with all the French participants in the race via Beijing.

One of the beautiful catholic church in pondicherry. This church is very near to Pondicherry Railway Station and easily accessible. This church's french architecture and colourful glass works is beautiful. They maintain it carefully. This place is calm and quite. Must visit tourist spot. You have to park vehicle outside of church.
