We decided on this place especially, but hadn't counted on its popularity (tons of people, & packed parking on Easter Weekend). It is a beautiful area, no doubt. Gotta say, the unfenced track at times was very narrow along the rock cliff, with dangerous rapids directly below. Kinda risky standing aside for people coming past! Also am not at all... More

This is a great spot and the windows walk is brill especially for children! Don't forget to take a torch for the windows walk! Have done this trip with family, friends and 30 school children who really loved it!

This is a beautiful gorge with lots of walking or cycling tracks, bridges and tunnels. Make sure you have lots of space on your camera.

This walk is an absolute must for all ages! The track is extremely well presented. Make sure your camera and video battery is fully charged as the views are just outstanding! The tunnels are fun so take a torch. When inside turn the torch off and get an appreciation of the total blackness and silence. We spent two hours here... More

Its easy to drive by this old gold mine community without stopping and it has taken me years to do so. When I did i was pleasantly surprised. There are very interesting walks around the old gold processing plant and then a range of walking and cycling tracks branch of into the cliffs, bush and tunnels locally for the younger... More

Driving between Paeroa and Waihi on SH2,the view is wonderful of the gorge. Fantastic photo opportunities and places to stop. Some areas of the road are steep and winding - take care when driving and pulling over. Many large trucks use this route.

Rugged gorge with flowing river. Great walks (easy) through bush and old rail tunnel to the remains of the gold digging era. Nice quirky café nearby with good food and coffee.

The walk through the gorge is just one of the best around. Exploring the old gold mine works is sure to keep anyone interested for hours. The walks and cycleways are easy so anybody can do it as it follows a disused railway. The windows walk is spectacular which takes you down a smaller gorge away from the main walking... More
